Good Timing

So I found my cherry 2006 DC a few months ago...1 owner, clean carfax, low miles (84K and) and a stack of service records as long as my arm. Since the timing belt was not due til 90K, the previous owner had not had it done yet. I decided 13 years is long enough on a TB and waterpump, so I dropped it off at a shop I've never used before with an

Anyway, he just sent me this pic saying "Good Timing!" That pink you see is the Toyota coolant starting to leak and harden....so far I'm happy with service and the updates...

 

Good call. What causes this? Water pump is failing?

I'm a big believer that age can be a factor on some of these parts more so than miles. It's why I'm replacing my radiator even though it works fine. 17 years is a good run for a radiator.

 

My understanding is it's the waterpump beginning to fail, but maybe someone else who knows for sure can chime in. I was thinking about doing the radiator as well...but I think I will go a couple more years since it's getting a nice coolant flush at the moment.

 

The pumps typically leak from the weep hole when the seals dry up from age. Reason it’s always recommend to replace the pump with the belt everytime
