Why is the most popular tire for our trucks not included in this list?? (295/70 R18)

Becuz I want to keep my rims I actually love them. Wouldn’t want to spend 1,500 on a new set of rims ..keeping the 20s saves me money. Only need the taller tire.

I get that, but many of us have 18's and the 295/70-18 is quite popular on our trucks.

I have a 3" lift and just installed 275/65/20 tires on the OEM TRD Sport wheels. OD is 34.2". They rubbed on the front small mud flaps (Which I then removed) and rubbed on the skid plate at full lock (which I hammered in with a rubber mallet about 1/2"). No rubbing. I was driving on a construction site through swales and rough graded areas with no problems or concerns.

I'm not, yet. Currently I'm on 275/70-18 with the 6112's in the front at the top setting (2.5") 5160's in the rear with toytec shackles at 1.5".
My mudflaps were gone when I bought her.
I have 18" x 8 wheels with an unknown offset.

I have a 2019 Tundra Tundra Double Cab SR5 stock with P275/55R20 on right now. I was wondering if I would be safe from rubbing if I went with P285/70R17?

@effect , the 285/70/17 is a 32.7" tire, less than an inch bigger than the OEM 275/55/20. You can go up to 1 inch taller on OEM suspension, so it should be good. The little bit wider 285 vs 275 should not be a problem.

Interested to see the 2nd 3rd gen options for 17” wheels. I see more and more people picking them and will probably go with them when I finally get the moooolaaaa to upgrade.

One of my coworkers just came in to let us all know he passed a truck with the tire off and the wheel spacer being the cause. SPACERS are DANGEROUS!!!! Just get the proper wheel offset to avoid spacers.

If your wheel comes off with a quality hub centric spacer, it would have come off anyways. It wasnt properly torqued.

A quality wheel spacer is tight to the hub bore, you install, torque down. Then check it 50 miles later, then check wheel torque 50 miles after that.

Looks nice! Did you put any lift in the rear or is it just 3" in the front? Also when hammering in the skid plate, were you able to do it with the tire on or do they need to be removed?

@mgates32 , the kit is a 3/1.5. My rake was just over 1.5", so it is a perfect balance.
When hammering the skid plate I just turned the wheel all the way to the right to bend the right side and vice versa the left side. That gave more than enough room. I used a rubber mallet and hit it at an upward angle to roll the bend that is already there over by about 1/2" or so. It did not take much. I also had to take off the small mud flap thingies in the front - they were rubbing more than the skid plate.

Not a fan of wheel spacers. I am doing a 6112 Bilstein on 1.9" setting. CB shim on drivers side. 5100's on rear and a CB 1" shackle lift. Looking to run 285/70-18 tires.

So, question...if I'm doing this a bit at a time, wheels, tires, and suspension, would doing a 3" lift on the stock Limited 20s for a while look completely goofy?

I'm probably going to go back to 18s, but don't want all of that at once. I ran 285/65/R18 on my '08 stock TRD with no rubbing, etc., and was thinking about going the same route, but with the lift. I might go 285/75/R18 if it will fit under the lift without too much effort.

It does look a bit goofy, often referred to as "skipped leg day" look. But, if it works for you and it is only a limited time, then who cares - go for it if you know that there is a different goal at the end.
285/75/18 will work, but needs a little adjustment, mostly the front mud flap and fender liner, depending on your new wheels' offset. 285/65/18 is not much bigger than stock - might still look like skipped leg day with a 3" lift. Just kidding, it will be okay. 18" wheels actually helps. It is more so the 20" wheels with low profile 55 sidewalls that looks goofy with the lift.
