I have a 2012 Tundra Dbl cab with the 5.7 engine I purchased new from my local Toyota dealer, that now has 143K on it. They have done all the required maintenance and service recommendations over the years. In December my check engine light went on with code P0012 VVT01 bank 1 over Retarded. The dealer first replaced the Oil Control Value and tested. This cost $800. 3 Weeks later, the check engine light came on again with the same code, and they ended up replacing VVT-I Bank 1 and Bank 2. This was $2500. 3 weeks ago, the light came on again with the same code. This time they said they did all tests and worked with Toyota to get some ideas. They first said that it may be a stretched timing chain and did a bunch of tests, and found that it was not the problem. They then said it was the ECU and the cost for the part is $1600.00. I told them to do it, I just want my truck back after 2 weeks. They replace it last week and said that it is still giving the code and has low oil pressure. They said that someone from Toyota actually came to the shop to work with them and they concluded that I need replace the motor. Has anyone had anything like this happen with this code ? I purchased this truck expecting to have to do some maintenance and repairs, but not a new motor at 150K.

You have paid them 5k and it is not fixed? I'd call Toyota USA and say you need tp good will whatever the fix is.

    Good luck.

Wow. Almost 5k into this mess and now a different motor?

<70k mile engine are going for ~3500.00, plus install will add another 1500.00.

Sure hope the dealership is refunding money. They didn’t properly diagnose the problem, and threw parts at it, expensive
    ones at that.

Sounds like your dealer was shotgunning the problem. Shotgunning is when they replace a part hoping it'll fix the problem without actually proving they have correctly diagnosed the faulty part. I agree with the others that some sort of compensation is in order or I would file a complaint with your state against the dealership. Either they stand behind their work or not.
