So, I’m thinking hard about what my next mod is going to be, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be suspension. I want to level it out a little, maintaining slight rake because I do use my truck as a truck (lol hauling crap, pulling a trailer, etc). My first impression is Bilstein 5100 but the 6112’s May be a better fit for me. Then I got to looking, and the price of the Fox 2.0’s is pretty much as high as I’m willing to go on this particular project, and I’m wondering if they would be worth the added cost vs my other options.
I drive 40 miles 1- way to work every day and once/month I go out to the forest and play. Mostly sugar sand, some mud (whenever I can find it) a lot of washboard roads and for some reason I always tend to find roads that are more like “whoops” on motor cross tracks, which are great for bottoming out the stock suspension.

I never really see anything about these shocks and how people use their trucks, so I’m trying to be as specific as possible.
    Thanks

You can rebuild the fox shocks....I have 2.5s in front 2.0 in the rear all with resivours...I love them. I don’t think you can go wrong with a good fox kit....6112s wouldn’t be bad I’ve just never been a big bilstien fan they are good for like oem replacement upgrade but not much more than that in my eyes...most say on here’s it’s the best budget kit available for these trucks so I’m sure you will get pulled both ways. You can always add some shims to these to if you wanna get closer to 3in of lift up front.

Thanks, what about the Fox 2.0 without the reservoir? Any thoughts?

I have had 5100, 6112, and Fox 2.0 on a Tundra. If you can put aside the size of the shock, and live with 2” lift, the Fox 2.0 is definitely better imo.. That said, seeing your usage requirements, my advice would be to save a little more and get pick your poison Fox/King/ADS/etc. 2.5” remote resevoir shocks. Washboard and “whoops” are well past the capabilities of the 3 choices.

Thanks for the input. Looking at the price of the 2.5’s the ones without the reservoir would come in about $700 more than the 2.0’s while the ones with the reservoirs come in at triple the price of the 2.0. Hmmm.

The resi’s will help keep the shock cooler I mean how hard are you on the truck are you going fast over stuff and how often? If once a month you go out and play I’d say you don’t need a resi shock. If it’s a couple times a week probabaly not a bad idea.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. It really is once/month for me. The rest of the time I’m commuting in my truck.

I had the fox 2.0 coil over and 2.0 smooth body with resi on my tacoma. Took it offroading around home with a few trips to Moab and few other places. Nothing crazy gnarly just fun off road stuff.

Absolutely loved it. No complaints here.

probably will do the same thing on my tundra once I have the money
