    2018 TRD double cab
Hey there this is my first real post, but been lurking a little while. I think I've searched every topic posted in this section and have yet to find a definitive answer on cap compatibility. I have a 2018 double cab TRD. Is there ANY other cap that will fit my truck? Will gen 2 tundra cap fit? A couple threads I read said "no", but no explanation. I found a really good deal on an ARE cap off of a 2013. I mean, can I make it work? I'm strictly looking for function to keep hunting and ice fishing gear under cover from October thru February, and also occasional out of state trips where I'd be camped in the bed. I've also found a couple used caps that just say "6.5 foot truck cap" off of other truck manufacturers.

I found the soft toppers via this forum too, and they have me intrigued. If anyone can speak more on them feel free please.

I've usually always had just a tonneau cover and they've worked, but my very first truck I had came with a cap and they are quite handy. Will come in especially helpful in some recent out of state hunts I'm doing.

    Thanks!

I am sure you could make it work. I just bit the bullet and bought new because I keep mine on year round. They match cement really well

Thanks! From what I read the bed sizes are the exact same. Possible issue with tailgates? We'll see. I found an ARE with ladder rack for $375 that's off a 2013 and is in great condition. A coworker of mine is a gear head and very talented at auto body too. He said he can paint to match for around $400.

For that price even if you had to order a new window to fit the tailgate you would still be saving probably 1000-1500. I would go for it. Mine was almost 3K for everything

I found the answer to my question! I took a 2 hour trip to pick up a cap that came off a 2013 DC. It's about an inch too short. It fits great along the bed rails and no issues with the tailgate. The glass closes and locks fine. It's short on the cab end. See photos. I'm gonna try to make it work with a rigid rubber strip under it, or something else I haven't quite figured out yet. I'm open to suggestions. Or a trade for a gen 3 DC!!;)

I have been going round and round with the same questions. I have a 2018 crewmax and would rather buy a used cap too. From what I gather it looks like I would have to get one that was previously on a 3rd gen crewmax. It seems like no other truck has the same bed size. Which I find odd. Let me know if anyone knows any different!!!

Check out the trade ins at the topper dealers in your area. The ones here in CO have them occasionally.

I would assume it would fit like mine does. An inch or so short on the cab side. I sealed it up as best I could with a pvc board that I taped with some stuff I found at home depot called aqua seal tape. I screwed it to the underside of the cap while pushing it against the truck rail. I'd call it 95% water tight and in my opinion looks pretty good.

Thanks for uploading the pictures. Can't really see what you've done from the pic tho.

If you want to sell this when you buy a new one that fits your 3rd Gen, I’m your huckleberry.
