I have a couple of acres that I keep as yard and finally gonna give up on cheap weed wackers from Lowes or wherever. What should I buy and approx cost, I know it wont be cheap.
pic for attention to show I can spend a few bucks if I want to, just know nothing about HD weed eaters.

Stihl. They will be having their summer Stihl dealers days before much longer. The one I have is around $200.

I’ve had great luck with Stihl and Echo. Can’t go wrong with either one in my opinion. Only go straight shaft for sure.

Go to a lawn care equipment store. Stihl is really nice. Echo, tanaka or husqvarna are good too. I'd recommend getting a STRAIGHT SHAFT and look into a split shaft version so you can add on different heads for different jobs. I have had an echo split shaft for 15 years and used to do 20 lawns a week with it. I have a rubber paddle sweeper, edger, saw blade, and pole saw for it.

I just bought the Stihl Kombi KM 131 R unit. The Kombi unit allows you to buy multiple attachments and switch them quickly. It is their 4-mix unit so it is pretty loud and sounds like a Harley. It can be pretty heavy if you are running it for prolonged period of time. Hands down it is the most powerful trimmer I have ever used and I have used a lot.

I have 3 attachments so far. Trimmer head, brush cutter, and tiller.

It is not cheap but it is true commercial quality and an absolute beast!

I sold Stihl for 8 years and wouldn't go any less than their FS/KM91. It will last you a lifetime if taken care of.

I just had my Husqy blow up on me. Clutch and shafts. Was 300ish to fix.

I bought the Stihl 91, I've got about 4 hours on it so far this year. Runs great! I didn't get the split shafts becuause you can still use all the attachments (except the pole saw extension, can still use the pole saw, just not the extension). You just sttach them at the gear head, instead of mid shaft.

    I have a Shin-Daiwa https://www.shindaiwa-usa.com/Products/Trimmers/T262X.aspx
I borrowed a friends and had to have my own. It’s definitely a hot rod, and every stihl I’ve ever dealt with has been difficult to cold start and took forever to warm up, don’t get the obsession, but my dad has a stihl hat he’s proud of so I guess there’s that.

I know a lot of folks have good experiences, but I have not been impressed. I only borrowed the machines noted to all have similar symptoms so I don’t know the maintenance history. The machines I had cold start problems with and took a long time to warm up were a backpack blower and a pole saw. My local ACE “landscaper’s supply” is a big local dealer and they sell a ton of high end gear including stihl, and if you talk to a salesperson there they aren’t the biggest fans either. Most stihl buyers don’t ask them though, so there ya go. But enough hating on another brand, to each their own. It’s not likely you’ll be disappointed by any $300 + trimmer if you maintain it and buy the correct tool for the job.
I love my shin-daiwa so far, and it also has a super easy to load head. Think they were bought by echo, and echo now also has the same easy load head on some of their models. I have also had very positive experiences with echo small engine products. I own the pb 580 backpack blower and it’s a beast!

I got a DR trimmer on craigslist for $80. It has large wheels on the back and large head on the front that uses thick cord that cuts through big stuff. You can even pt a circular saw blade on it for cutting saplings. I use it for cat tails at the lake. If you have lots of trees and fence to trim around this is what you need.
