We presently live in a county in NY that is not shy about using salt on the roads in winter.
My 2017 shows a bit of surface rust in typical places..
We plan to move to North Carolina this year.
What is the status on using road salt or brine in and around the Raliegh area during the few times that the road freezes during winter?
Do you folks worry about rust there?

    I appreciate your comments.

I live in Western NC and if they are calling for one snow flake they coat the roads with brine. Not sure about the Raleigh area but i wouldn't think they would have to use a lot. But welcome to NC.

Brine is the only thing used on the roads here and I have no worries about rust. I just take the truck to get an underbody wash after the roads are cleared.

What about the coast? There's that big brine pond to the east.

Only brine for the most part here, they will put it down a week out from a snowflake showing up on your weather app and shut down school for 3 days...drive thought a carwash with an underbody wash and your good

    Western NC, “Boondocks”
They only use a spray on brine IF DOT thinks it will be effective. And this application is usually only main highways, interstates. We get very little snow here in Western NC.
So No rock salt and sand building up under your fender wells and frame crevices. After a good winter rain the brine is pretty much washed off the roads. Non issue.

    Welcome to freedom!

Don’t think about it, let’s go!

    It’s time.
    Let’s go!
Winters, salt and jarring pot holes.
    I’ve had my fill.

I've been in NC about 50 years, Charlotte area, no worries with road salt.
Just to let you know, if it does snow, everything closes. SNOW DAY!! WOOT!
All the stores run out of milk and bread really fast. Gotta love those milk sandwiches.

May I correct you sir...if the weather prediction specialist expert person say it will snow...possibly in the next few days...maybe...everything closes and it's like black Friday at Walmart to get milk and bread. Now if it actually shows over .5" this is what happens
