If someone ever offers you one of these , run away ... worst saw ever !
    The story :
A neighbor brings over 3 saws . Two older Homelites ,and this yellow thing better known as a mini mac . I get the Homey’s going fairly quickly ,so it’s on to the mini mac . Bear in mind that you have to take this saw completely apart to do ANY thing beyond minor adjustments .( see the pics a couple of posts above ) So, after changing fuel ,and oiler lines ,rebuilding the carb , sealing the leaky fuel tank , it’s time to see if it’ll run .
Well,it does . So while tuning the high end , the starter cone ( which is steel and bonded to very brittle plastic ) decides to drop into the flywheel at 10k+ ... That takes out part of the flywheel ,and it all comes out the top of the saw . That took out the fuel cap at the same time . Mind you , I’m holding this thing ! How any of that missed me for the most part ,and didn’t cause a fire is fortunate . Still haven’t found all the missing shrapnel .
    7932D241-C8A5-4E67-A703-BADD454BE986.jpg 46AE5012-3E33-4376-9DA8-BEB6ACD65165.jpg 8C84E14A-5307-4CDF-AD91-7950FC0D1A0D.jpg
And the finished saw ... Going to tell the owner to put it on a shelf ,and not run it .

Also picked this 572XPG up a few weeks ago . It’s really well suited to running a 28” bar . The heated handles will be nice on this old man’s hands come winter .52184F06-E086-43B6-B438-398FC56424A7.jpg3FC9B21B-05C2-4C36-B80D-114A07B40B78.jpg

    To much to list:)
^ Speaking of hands there is no way I could dive into anything like that anymore!! Love seeing people that can and still do though. That is some fine fixin you have going on!! Ran into a few old saws here and there and seeing all of yours and others make me think I probably should have kept them. I gave them to the local saw guy that liked them as much as I did at the time, some were very heavy and I could only imagine carrying them all day???!! Thanks for your posts and keep on keeping on!!:)

I would like to say that you have a problem and should see a therapist. If they are any good can I have their number? I have a train problem I would like to talk to them about!

U might be able to help me out. I have a stupid lawn mower that only starts if I spray starter fluid in to the carb. Then I can shut it off and it starts again. If I try to start it the next day it’s a no go again u till I spray starting fluid in the carb again. I took off the carb and cleaned it and gas tank as well bought some 91 gas and added sea foam and it started up right away. Let it sit for a week and stupid thing will only start with starting fluid again. What is my problem lol

My throttle cable came loose. The nut and bracket that holds the cable tight to the carburetor came loose.

I used to do small engine repair, those mini macs and Eager Beavers were definitely the worst design for repairing. Having to remove the engine to do something as simple as replace the carb diaphragm was rediculous.

Without seeing the carb , it’s gonna be a WAG . But , you are losing the carbs prime overnight ( if it has a purge bulb ) ,or your choke isn’t working ( likely cable out of rig as was suggested ) .

Thanks for the info. It doesn’t have a purge bulb that’s what sucks. I’ll post some pics and sorry I’m not trying to change ur topic of the thread but just trying to get help before I scrap this stupid lawn mower lol

    Heh, heh...Chainsaws.

There's a real personal assault weapon that gets zero attention from politicians and teen-twits alike. "School Sawing"...Now that would work off some hormones while achieving some real notoriety.

Actually they both ,along with ,Echo ,and Makita ( Dolmar ) ,all make some pretty decent stuff if a person picks the right equipment for the tasks they will be doing .
pull the fuel bowl off ,and check the bowl ,and jet for trash . The jet is actually the bolt that hold the bowl on . It’s hollow with a small passage on the side for fuel to pass through the carb . Could be partially blocked with sediment . Also ,it doesn’t look like your choke is closing all the way . That’s about all I can come up with from the pics .

No doubt! These millenials are dumber than a box of rocks, and about worthless when its comes to any kind of labor, I know, i try to use them for help around the property and end up doing it myself.

Nice thread. When I was climbing I ran Stihl only and had a 092 for climbing, had 026 for bucking and an old 066 for felling. Now I only have my 311 And I picked up an Echo 360T for when I do a climbing job for friends. Do miss the 066 though.

A guy I fix saws for found this ,and gave it to me . It is 80cc’s ,built between 1962 and 1967 . Got it de-munged ,made some adjustments ,and it fired up. Needs some minor stuff to make 100% useable .
No chain brake , clutch cover ,or chain catcher ,and a hard nosed ( no nose sprocket ) bar . Haven’t had many interesting saws to work on lately . But a guy brought me this one that won’t start after sitting for years . It’s actually got very little run time on it judging by the cylinder ,and spur sprocket wear . Just needs a carb rebuild ,and it should be good to go .FA55AF83-97B1-4C90-AECD-B98F67C55FCF.jpg

A guy I do chains for gave me these . A homelite C52 ,and a Shindiawa 488 . They Homey is going to take some time ,and research .The Shindiawa was straight gassed ,given that the piston is scored on the exhaust , and intake sides . It’ll make a great truck saw .EC0262E5-A247-42A2-859B-455EC2923623.jpg 9C35BFB7-6EB5-456A-803E-22D356C84B00.jpg 2C9C7E12-44FA-4E97-A1E0-14B4B0682F6E.jpg 69A89060-D61D-4111-A7D5-290CD8FE5D54.jpg AF53D86E-A6AE-409E-B5A5-49DB84AA031F.jpg

Got it running with fresh gas after sitting for 11 years. I put some minor work into it and it runs badass. Oh and chain brakes were optional back then!
she also gave me all the original brochures and flyers, which is just as cool as having a chainsaw older than me.

I'm really interested in saws. I just bought a new Echo 620P with a 24 and have not even started it yet. I need a better set up to file with. Mine is pretty outdated. If you guys were going to buy one what would you get??? The grinder set ups that I have been around make everything to hard to file on afterwards

I hate to say it but I’m intimidated a little by a chainsaw. I’m damn good with other tools and working on vehicles, etc but the only couple times I used a saw I felt uncomfortable. I need to cut some trees around my house to clean up some stuff but I’d have to get me a new saw and give it another try.

If you use one long enough there is going to be an incident. They are not toys and will send you to the ER PDQ. I always try to have a clear escape route and stay focused as to the wind. Keep in mind this is a chore you need to be in shape for after a couple tanks of fuel / oil take a break and look everything over good before going at it again. More than once I have had spring poles and butt ends jump right at me.
