Between FaceBook Marketplace, Pink bike, Craigslist....lost some faith in humanity.

    The search continues....

Been looking at Motobecane Hal Eagle NX12 and a few Santa Cruz Tallboy bikes as well.

Head to pinkbike.com and have a look in the used bikes. You’ll be able to find a bike you want for the price you want close to you. The website is the raddest

You could take advantage of the conversion rate and buy a Norco(Canadian). I ride a Norco Aurum and love it. 2016 carbon 7.1 27.5” wheels and paid $2600 cad. Which is right around $1800usd.

Pinkbike is pretty good. Only issue I have had is sold bikes (like 2-3 weeks sold) with the adds still up. I'm pretty sure my ass wouldn't want people calling me on my personal number long after an item is sold.

I normally shop the living shit out of everything, but this bike buying has been interesting.

Looking at a Santa Cruz Tallboy ltc, 2012. Has some decent components:

    race face cranks
    rock shox pike 160
    cane creek DB AIR
dt swiss xm 481,staright and true
    dt swiss 350 hubs
    rental 35mm stem
    Rock Shox Reverb dropper
XT BRAKES with ice tech rotors, 203mm front/180 mm rear

No where near as nice as most of the bikes in here. I’m just getting into the sport so didn’t want to spend a fortune. Giant Fathom 1 29er, bought it a couple weeks ago. I’ve done a little over 10 miles of single track so far, too much damn rain the last couple weeks. B7AA472B-0763-424A-AC3E-B55DE828E506.jpg

I bought the same bike a few months ago. This is my second Giant and I really like it. The tubeless tires don't seem to hold air as well as tubes.

You may want to run it by a bike shop or something and make sure the tape on the rim isn’t damaged and you’re sealant is fresh. I haven’t had any issues with my tubeless setup losing air

This is my current ride, a 2014 or 2015 version. I'm slow on the up and charge pretty hard on the way down and this bike helps me on both. I'm no pro, but had been a weekend warrior for over 20 years.

Got the tallboy ltc a couple years ago and it took my riding to another level. Between moving within a few minutes from table mountain and this bike, I've gone from riding maybe once a week to multiple rides per week. It's so fun to ride.

I grew up riding dirt bikes and have lots of broken bones from getting a bit too rowdy. In my 40s now so I am a bit more calculated. My past rides were yeti asr5c, specialized stumpjumper enduro, rocky mtn instinct (rode this one a long time, first "nice" bike), a cannondale hardtail, trek with zero suspension. The ltc was such a huge jump...

If I had the money though, I'd trade for a yeti 5.5 in a heartbeat. Demo'd one when I was looking for the current ride but couldn't justify the cost vs the top specced used ltc.

All this talk of having "a" bike. I live in Louisiana and one bike is not enough. I do travel a lot and ride where I can. Have 9 and looking for #10. I'm thinking a long travel monster like the Santa Cruz Megatower or something that pedals well as I don't ride park or shuttle unless it's something like The Whole Enchilada. My quest continues.

Today I went and looked at the Santa Cruz Tall Boy.

    Well.....

    Oops.

Already went to the bike shop, purchased 5 tires, 4 tubes, chain, and started tuning my families bikes. My youngest is getting a new bike. Outgrew hers in a year. My oldest might make it through this season.

Took it out today, rides great. Seat needs to be used as target practice. Like a rock.

make the tubeless conversion. save yourself trail side headaches. i may have extra tape and sealant in the garage. does it have a dropper seatpost? can't tell. if not, i'd think seriously about getting one.

It has tubeless tires and a dropper. Good thinking.

I’ve always heard great things about Ergon seats but I’ve been running a WTB for a few years and really like it. Granted, I’m running purely XC because of my location so I don’t know if that has any impact on seat choices

you may want to refresh the sealant since it may have been awhile since the previous owner had done that. if what i have in the garage, hasn't turned into a rubber ball, i'll bring it down on friday. for saddles, i use an ergon sme3 in a medium. saddles are tough to recommend but you want one that fits your sit bones and doesn't put too much pressure on the taint...

In the bike world that's equivalent to asking what type/brand/weight of oil do you like to to run. Actually everything in the bike world is like that, most cyclists are pretentious dicks.

Seats are really all personal preference. I used to shell out money for Fizik seats, now I have a Charge on every bike. It comes down to shape and width way more than padding, gel, or special cuts. There is something to be said for a true custom fit saddle that perfectly fits your sit bones. But the more realistic thing to do is try a few, sit on a few, take a few different saddles for a ride. Decent bike shops usually have demo saddles that you can swap onto your bike and take for a spin.

It doesn't all come down to padding, a seat that feels great when you initially sit on it will not necessarily feel good in 10-15 miles.

roadies and dentists are at the top of that list...

i've ridden sella italia flite saddles on my road bikes ever since i started racing at 13. i used one on my xc race bike for awhile too. however, for me, ergon wins hands down these days. trail bike has their saddle and grips. dh bike just has their grips since the only time i actually sit on that one is pedaling from the truck to the lift.

excel sports in boulder carries their grips but no saddles. depending on what i need, i either buy stuff from them or universal cycles out of portland. universal has really good pricing.

You get used to a hard seat as long as you don't get numbness, you won't get used to friction points. I'd rather set on the edge of a 2x4 than a fancy memory foam seat.

I have had numerous bikes, specialized stump jumper in the early 90 when I first caught the bug coming from dirt bikes. Cannondale, Klein, and Norco for a long travel. 50 something and still bombing a bit, riding a HT Diamondback Line with long travel front, fun bike. Their HOOK, Line and Sinker bikes are pretty cool. 27.5 has been good for me.

    Vehicle:
2022 CrewMax TRD Off Road, MGM of course.
I've gotten a few rides in this year and i've noticed that after awhile, my hands or at least a couple fingers will go numb or tingle. Never had the problem 10 or 12 years ago when I was riding competitively. Not sure if it's a grip or geometry thing or just an out of practice thing.

Bike is a 2017 Specialized Rockhopper size small frame.

    Thoughts?
