Column shifter - smooth shift out of P

Sometimes it takes effort to pull the column shifter out of park. Other times it's easier. I thought applying the parking brakes when parking would make it easier to shift once I start up the car again but nope. Still hit and miss. Any ideas?

 

Same here. Just gotta get used to it. Not a fan though.

 

Mine passes through Reverse too easily.

 

Yes, mine too especially when it is hard to get out of P and I have to use more force. I guess this is not uncommon.

Here's Wynnded's method on Tundratalk, will try it out:

Once stopped, I keep my foot on the Service Brake and shift the transmissionto Neutral.
I then set the Parking Brake.
Next I release my foot from the Service Brake to be sure that the weight of the truck is being held by the Parking Brake.
Then I place the transmission in Park. You don't even need to put your foot on the Service Brake to do this.

When it's time to go, I put my foot on the Service Brake,
Release the Parking Brake,
Place the transmission in gear and go.
