Well it has been just over a year of Tundra ownership. We picked up our 2007 Silver Sky Metallic DC TRD 2WD with just under 130K miles in Jan. 2018. It was a 2 owner Tundra fairly well kept with clean CarFax and dozens of Maintenance services reported. We purchased from an individual; good vibes from him answered questions and seemed honest. This is to be a 3rd vehicle and for my then soon to be 16 yr son to drive. We got a great deal, could have flipped it for a few grand but never considered.

New to Tundras I quickly became very impressed with it. It is very roomy inside, powerful, and a great looking truck. Family, Friends, and neighbors all thought it was several years newer than an 07 and cost us much much more than we paid. I am still quite impressed with it; it runs and drives much better than I would have ever expected with 130k miles.

I figured I needed to document our journey to date, some maint. and details of accessories added. This wasn't to be massive build; more of something that my son and I could spent time tinkering with and adding a few accessories. Hopefully teach him a thing or two about care and working on vehicles.

    January 2018

-It came with some aftermarket wheels that were replaced immediately with some Gen 3 20" Black TSS Take-Offs with new Dynapro AT tires.

-We did an oil change for new Baseline, Mobil 1 and a Wix filter. Skid plate is a minor pain.

    February 2018

-Ordered and installed some locking TRD lugs from Ebay. Don't want our fancy new wheels stolen. LOL
    [IMG]

-The Serpentine belt was squealing so we replaced it. The new belt started to shred after about 5 miles, found out we somehow tweaked the spring in the tensioner pulley so that it was out of line when changing the first belt. New Gates tensioner and Gates belt, all quiet now.

-Curious about the rear differential gear oil, drained and filled with Mobil 1 Gear oil. The drained oil was much cleaner than expected, most likely changed previously. More evidence the Tundra was well taken care of. Also Got some new wipers.

-Purchased the console tray from MX Auto Accessories and JoyTutus console divider both from Amazon. Both fit and work really well. Honestly not sure how to use that space without these items and why they come empty from Toyota. :notsure:

-Next was Interior LEDs, still one of my favorites. Got a reasonable set from Ebay, $15.89 for a whole set, forget the name (Not available anymore), but work really well. Only blew one fuse during install.

    20180310_214208.jpg

-The truck had some generic rubber floor mats. Ordered some Toyota OEM black carpeted mats from Ebay. Looks much better.

-Impressed with the Interior LEDs, we got some LEDs for the Tail / Brake / Reverse / Cargo lights from Amazon. Much better, brighter than the incandescent bulbs. We tried the rear signals but hyper-flashing had us abort for now.
Pics are hard to capture but they are definitely brighter and much more visible. Red LED's are much more Red in Tail & Brakes. The Reverse are bright & White.

    March 2018

-Accelerator pedal is really touchy, head jerking at take offs. Very Jumpy. Difficult for my son to drive smoothly. Not finding any solutions; Bully Dog Tuner suggested and de-tune but seemed like too much. Purchased the Pedal Commander, set on ECO, actually works very well. Really smoothed out the acceleration. Able to Hide the unit under the dash at floorboard, son doesn't know its there. Played with Pedal Commander without son, Sport modes are fun. Non-Bluetooth model.

-Mid March, on son's 16 Birthday we gave it a wash / wax. It shined up really well.

    Waxed 1.jpgWaxed 2.jpg

-Got Mulch? Put the Tundra to work with a pallet of much and 10 bags of Paver Sand. Harvey had washed our Mulched beds out and had to get back in shape. Short haul, maybe a mile or two.

    Got Mulch.jpg

    April 2018

-Noticing some interior rattles, which can really grate on my nerves. Finding that most of them are Glove box, console lid, compartment doors. Took some "Sticky-Back" felt for cabinets or furniture feet and took up the slack in these and made for tighter closings. Much quieter now.

    June 2018

-Started noticing negative rake or the rear squatting a bit on inclines. Maybe from too much mulch. LOL. Ordered some 1" shackles from Amazon. Maxtrac Suspension (716710) 1" Rear Lift Shackle (wished I would have got adjustable 1-2", may need more lift later) Added a tiny bit of rake back in it.

-Brakes squealing, thought it was the "tattle-tails" but pads were aftermarket Wagner and looked to be ceramic with zero wear. New Toyota OEM Pads in front & back now, much quieter.

    July 2018

-Really wanted a back up camera and Bluetooth. Scored a free slightly used Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX head unit. Ordered the Master Tailgaters Tundra Tailgate Handle with Reverse Camera. Had a local Stereo Installer put it in. $200.00 well spent IMHO, we could have done it in several hours I am sure, Maybe 1.5 hrs at shop and done.

-New head unit has much more power :muscleflexing:, 50 Watts x 4 and pushes the stock speakers way better. Head unit also has Nav. and apparently many more features I wasn't aware of. Found out it was their premium HU for that year. Big score!

-New Tailgate latch with camera looks/works great too.

-Rust spot noticed and had been monitoring on roof at windshield. We did not want to get worse. Had repaired and roof painted. Windshield had to be removed to repair correctly. Found a PPG glass dealer and body shop in one, didn't charge much to remove windshield and didn't break it!

    August 2018

-Installed some Door Courtesy Projector LEDs with Toyota logo. Cheap and fun mod. Plug n play, sort of. Had to re-calibrate some of the LED's prongs to be able to connect harness. Poor Chinese QC. Can't see in day but well at night.

    November 2018

-Enlightened by the Toyota OEM accelerator pedal upgrade for Gen 2's with touchy pedals (from Gen 2 Thread), I purchased and installed the new accelerator Assembly Part #04000-044C. New pedal smoother by itself. Removed the Pedal Commander, not needed at this time. Also always worried it may glitch or fail somehow while son was driving. Also sold the "Turbo" pedal to another member.

-Headlights Looking a little hazy. Meguiar's Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit worked well.

-Found some NFabs on Craigslist, very good price. Had them powder coated Matte Black with a bit of Texture. In new condition now for $150 less. Merry Christmas!

-Purchased a TRD shift knob from another member. Looks better than skinny rubber one.

Replaced all four window belt moldings (Squeegee on outside bottom of window), old ones weathered and mostly worthless. Fairly easy, maybe 20 minutes.

Overall wonderful experience with the Tundra. I really thought we would be working on a 10-12 yr old truck much more. Kudos to the Toyota Tundra. Almost everything done to date has been more by choice. Except for the recent a/c blower motor & serpentine belt tensioner, it really hasn't given us a bit of trouble. It runs well - like a much newer truck. I find myself spreading the "Tundra Love" to folks when inquiring or talking about getting a new truck. This isn't a huge build but our journey after a little over a year in. It really is a great truck that is enjoyable to own. This site has also made ownership very enjoyable and entertaining.

The whole experience so far has our Tundra ranking as one of my Favorite vehicles owned of all time. Ranking up there with my favorite, the 88 Isuzu Trooper II, LOL. Our son has no idea how fortunate he is. I am kind of Jealous from when I was his age but also sleep well knowing he is driving a great truck.

    Possible future endeavors:

    Needs:
    -Transmission Drain and fill
-Spring detail - might clay bar and try Meguiar's new hybrid ceramic coating.

    Wants:
-Have Auxbeam LEDs to install in Headlights, we will see how they work.
    -K/N Drop in air filter
-Exhaust upgrade, maybe Flowmaster 40 or 50 series.
    -New adjustable shocks

    Will update as we go.

Nice write up Trooper II! I'll have to do the same one of these days.

Sold my '86 Trooper about 17 years ago. I still miss it :(

Not bad for $26.00 I will need to get a set for the rears.

Not finding a great way to mount the resistor block on pig tail, 2-way taped to washer reservoir and headlight housing. Hopefully it will last a while. Also need to seal up harness @ pigtail, protect from dirt/moisture. Have some Shrink tape ordered.

Early last week finally got to the transmission Drain & Fill. Not knowing the service history something that needed to be done with 135K miles.

The job is not hard at all. Drained (measured) 4.5 quarts out and put 4.5 quarts back in. Kind of surprised how much came out, others reporting 2.5 - 3.5 quarts drained.

Opted for Valvoline Max Life since it was readily available. I had to go get an additional quart because I had only got the gallon container. The gallon was $18 at Walmart and $8 for a quart at O'Reilly's Parts.

The fluid removed looked better than expected; still fairly translucent, not brown or burnt smelling, with just a trace amount of sediment. Kind of think the previous owner had it serviced at some time, would not doubt with how well the truck was maintained.

There were no known issues prior. Test drive revealed no noticeable difference in feel of tranny, maybe just mentally with some new fluid in there. :)

Over the weekend I finally did a Clay Bar and applied a sealant to the finish. I used Mothers Speed Clay 2.0 and 303 Touchless Sealant.

This 303 product is fairly new. Liking the 303 interior protectant I thought it would be a good choice.

    1. Wash completely, twice.
    2. Speed Clay using new soapy wash bucket for lube. Not hard, just a bit time consuming.
    3. Wash again, to get any clay residue off. Not sure if there was any but for good measure.
    4. Applied 303 Sealant starting at roof, hood, sides, then tailgate.
    5. Blower dry, microfiber dry.

The amount of beading is very impressive. I am very impressed with how well the finish can look on a 12 year old truck.
