They can eat all the bugs and rodents they like as long as they keep off my fruit trees and we’re good
Till then, they better run from the mighty golf ball hailing down on them

My wife and I have a 20 x 20 garden. Beefsteak, Roma and cherry tomatoes, beans, peas, cucumbers, squash, etc. We love fresh vegetables. The ground is so saturated here right now I'll be lucky to plant by the 4th of July. I almost need hip waders to walk across my backyard.

That looks so awesome. We pick wild blueberries in the forests when we visit the in-laws in the Czech Republic. They are a lot smaller but pack a nice punch of flavor ... they grow as wild groundcover in the dense forests.

I've got 2 4x8 raised gardens this year and 4 5 gallon buckets with potatoes and broccoli. corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, cauliflower, carrots, onions, peas and lettuce. We are just now starting to harvest peas.

These plants want to grow really tall, almost 5 feet tall and loaded with blossoms. 3 Heirloom plants: Cherokee Purple left and right, Mr. Stripey in the middle. Time to cage them up.

I need to get into gardening. My therapist says I need to pick up some less hyper masculine hobbies to calm my aggressiveness. I am taking up cooking. Like actual cooking, not just throw-random-ingredients-together or find-the-easiest-and-quickest-recipe or light-coals-apply-meat-to-metal-grate; like actual multi component, fine dining type meals. I feel like gardening would make the perfect companion to cooking. I will build a garden bed this weekend.

i have poor soil where i'm at so i built my beds out of cedar 12" high. Then used compost and peat mix to fill. It compresses alot after a while so i'm down a good 4" lower than when it started to fill them up extra full. I'm attempting to be full organic gardening and i'm finding that the fertilizers last less time than the bags say, and that the beds need less watering than expected.

matt ... you will find gardening very therapeutic. i used to be ultra aggressive when i was younger and after having kids that changed my life but taking up gardening and belonging to many plant societies now, i actually prefer the company of plants to most people. plants are amazing organisms that i have learned so much from as far as survival and adaptation to external environmental factors. some plants i have grown from seeds sent to me from all over the world over 10 years ago from friends i have befriended from plant forums. some of the plants are over 15 feet tall now and i look at it as my babies. i also planted some plants when my kids were born and measure their growth and document with pictures as both my kids and the plants grow.

in any case, good luck with the plant garden. i unfortunately, only delve in ornamentals, mainly agaves, aloes, palms and flowering trees. my wife screams at me because there are no edibles but to each his own, right? i am sure you will find gardening very rewarding and with you taking up cooking lessons for the more refined palette, i am sure growing your own veggies will not only increase your satisfaction ten fold knowing you not only prepared the meal but also grew the ingredients. good times ahead buddy!

    cheers

    tin

haha, that's one of my other hobbies. I also load.

Excellent. Thank you for that. I'm planning on using some concrete block to create a large planter. I live in FL and there's no soil here. Only sand. The plan is to lay down some landscape fabric, build up the walls with concrete block and construction adhesive, the fill with some basic soil and soil amendment.

I don't have kids yet, which is probably a good thing. I'm trying to get to a point where I won't screw up kids.

I am looking forward to getting into gardening. I'm hoping it will help me compartmentalize my life better. I would like to also get into ornamental stuff eventually. Later through, small steps for now.

Thanks man. I have very limited space in my yard so I came up with this idea. Free pallets and free compost from the town dump.

I need to make a trellis for the Bush cucumbers and snap peas and I should be ok. I'm a little worried there isnt eniugh room for the zucchini but we will see.
