Hi all. This has come up a few times and a few members have given some great info over the past few years. But there hasn't been an update for the 2019s and what you can change. Thought I'd post them here to hopefully help others.

For those unfamiliar, Carista is a mobile phone app (iPhone/Android) that does two things: (1) lets you read and clear codes; "DIAGNOSE" and "SERVICE" and (2) configure various settings; "CUSTOMIZE".

Look at this as a TechStream alternative, with a caveat: I've heard TechStream gives you access to a few more tweaks and settings, but I was unable to confirm as I couldn't get a bootlegged copy to work with my 2019 (TPMS programming? Key fob programming?). For those that also can't, and or don't want to have to worry about getting it working, Carista is worth a look.

To make this work, you need to (A) download the app from your app store to your phone and (B) purchase a $20 Carista OBD wireless dongle (search "Carista OBD2 Bluetooth Adapter" on Amazon, or find one at your local auto parts store maybe).

For feature (1), aka reading and clearing codes, your only investment is the $20 dongle. Best of my knowledge this feature will work forever for free.

For feature (2), aka configuring things, Carista wants to charge you $9.99/mo or $35/year. Now, with that said, when you buy the dongle you get the first month free. And also with that said, these are pretty much set-it-and-forget-it settings. Meaning once you configure it the way you want, those settings stick forever (or until an ECM update from the dealer?). You DO NOT need to pay for a month or a year after your first month (which again is free because you bought the Carista dongle), unless you want to make setting tweaks again in the future. At that point you'd need to pay the fee to gain yourself access to again set and forget.

Below are screenshots from the app, the "CUSTOMIZE" area, that's been connected to my 2019 SR5 via the $20 dongle plugged into my OBD port:

Just found this: https://caristaapp.com/supported-apps Kinda cool that the Carista OBD2 adapter will work with all those apps, making it a much better investment IMHO (live transmission temps, anyone??).

Also, the Carista website says it only supports 2nd Gen, however, but Cement confirmed it works on his 2019 SR5

^^ Correct. These screenshots are from my phone, connected to the dongle, plugged into my 2019 SR5. Settings change just fine, as does clearing codes (had a couple, unbeknownst to me).

It is worth $20 to turn off the seatbelt ding on the passenger seat. My 26 pound dog resets the sensor every time she moves around.

    Ordered.

    Not that I've seen.

I don't see anything that locks you to a single vehicle. Everything I'm seeing sure makes me think its the 'app' you're unlocking, and not a specific vehicle.

I placed my order just minutes ago....one positive that makes it even more worth the while is if I leave the dongle attached to the USB I can look up a code immediately while anywhere on the road instead of getting home to find my USB hand held reader

Will that disable the "radar" on the cruise control? I'm a fan of cruise control, but I'm not diggin the "radar" portion.

Not that I see. I'm sure you're aware but pressing and holding the cruise button for 3 seconds will turn on the non-radar version of cruise (or said another way, will turn OFF the adaptive cruise). Pain in the ass, but at least its doable.

Does anyone know what settings techstream/dealer can adjust over carista?

Looks like a win unless techstream has some must have feature.

The biggest two I've seen mentioned are
    -TPMS adjustments
    -programming new key fobs

    Carista won't do either.

Tried Carista today but it didn't work. Kept getting a message saying the OBDII device wasn't working correctly and to purchase their device. My device works just fine in Dash Command and OBD Fusion though so this app seems scammy to me.

Scammy? That's a bit much. In general OBD device and software cross platform support is spotty at best. For example I have the BlueDriver OBD device and I can't get it to work with Torque; both of which are considered top tier. And yet, the Carista device works with the BlueDriver software, as well as Torque, OBD Fusion... just gotta play the mix and match game until you get it right, if buying same same doesn't appeal to you.

I'll just stick with the stuff that works I guess. I prefer to not play whack-a-mole with silly crap like this.

Any chance of headlights on when I turn on wipers?

I don't have auto wipers but I do have auto headlights turned on.

This is law now in a lot of states.
