I'm gonna guess, if they don't notice the rust, you might get somewhere in the $15-20k range. Depending on what you're buying and how nice your truck is. I've traded in 2 cars and both inspections lasted less than 10 minutes, both times. They seem to care more about bluebook value than actual condition of the car. And being in Alabama, I don't think they'll look too hard for rust.

I would get it inspected first. It looks bad, but it could just be superficial. If it's not to bad, spend a day underneath with a wire brush and plenty of cold beverages with a bunch of rustoleum and it'll be fine. After the paint is dry, hose that bad boy down with a few cans of fluid film every year to keep it nice. It's not my truck or money, but Im willing to bet that the linex option is going to be really expensive and can't do as good of a job as fluid film can as far as prevention goes.

Can you get inside the interior under the carpet and look for sand and silt? It may have been in a flood?
Main thing i see is a leaf shackle bracket possible rusted and brittle.

I vote for trying to clean it up. Worse case scenario, it will probably help you get more money if you decide to trade it in. Best case scenario, you get it all fixed and have a long, happy relationship with a great truck.

Hey man. It's not that bad. In nw ohio here and looks about like any Midwest vehicle. What I'd do. Buy a needle scaler (I just picked one up on Amazon for $50) get some rustoleum rusty metal primer and some rustoleum black. The primer makes a huge range difference in adhesion and rust stopping. The needle scaler will make the huge job of scraping very manageable. You do need a decent sized air supply to run it. I've treated several trucks this way. Brush on the primer, brush on top coat as much as you can reach and use rattle can for the rest. Will need touched up every few years. You're fine. Trucks fine.

I may be in minority here, but it doesn't look that bad. Most rust seems to be surface rust. The only way to find out is to get underneath and use wire brush. If it starts to break, then the rust is too deep I would just bite the bullet and trade it in. Dealers have resources to deal with it. I would suspect, however, that most of it will scrub away.

All steel rusts, even stainless steel. The question is when. Western PA (near the lake) are blessed with lots of snow. Snow is not bad, but the chemical/salt to fight it eats up cars like crazy. You are probably not used to seeing rust like that, but that's sorta common around here. When the rust begins to eat the side of the vehicle (we have plent of those), then it becomes big $ problem.

I checked and there is no recall on 2007 Tundras for frame rust. What this basically means is that any problem would be yours to deal with & Toyota would not likely offer any $$$ help. However, a good Toyota dealer, particularly one who was involved with the thousands of Tacoma recalls and many 1st Gen Tundras, could give a real world evaluation. If they deem it to be unsafe they would not let you drive it away without you signing a waiver that you understand the issues. You can ask them the specific procedures before you let them look at it so if you get backed into a corner you at least understand beforehand. Other possibilities is a previous owner drove it a lot through muddy areas and never bothered to clean the mud off the frame. That too would start corrosion like your pictures show. Might not be nearly as bad as you think. One more thought. I had a really great independent mechanic I used for years who serviced my 2002 Tacoma. Had this truck for 333,000 miles. He was totally surprised when Toyota replaces the frame on it under their recall since he inspected the frame himself and thought it was good. As good as he was, he didn't know what to look for until I showed him what they found and where to look. These trucks have been around for some time now so a good Toyota dealer should know what's just surface rust and what might be a structural problem.

If it were mine, I would just start at one end of the truck and start cleaning it up. Wire brush, sand paper and rustoleum. It might take a while, but it won't take forever. When you get to the suspension, either clean it up as best you can or buy used parts, clean them and paint, then install them when you can. Unless you see holes from the rust, the metal is probably still just fine. You could have it inspected to ease your mind. Car max is only going to give you wholesale price on it, so most likely you will take a loss. But you could take it up there and see. There's no harm in it.

Scrub off that rust behind the bumper, hit it with some rust converter, maybe blast it with some rustoleum, and then some body color duplicolor to hide it a little bit. Same thing under the truck knock off the loose stuff and hit it with some matte black rustoleum. When you're all finished protect it with some fluid film.
