I don’t trust the PCS issues. You can always buy it before your factory warranty expires. If nothing happens to the sensors or cameras during the 3/36 then I think you’ll be good. Cam leak is another issue.

    So.....

I can buy an extended warranty later? Dealer was giving me like 5 minutes to decide and I got an extra 24 hours but still... I know it's not a break the bank deal but I've wasted money on them before.

The FULL warranty presented was much more than $20 month and seemed a deal at $20 month but again...

Plus I have yet to get into a deal such as this where the fine print didn't ruin my day. I'm skeptical, based on experience, I'd have an issue and get a 100% "free" quick repair....

    Thanks,

    Greg!

Dont quote me ... but if your truck is less than 3yr/36k... I think you can still get the warranty. Contact jennifer taylor at wolverine toyota to compare pricing.

Yes, can be purchased later, the caveat would be having to pay cash or by credit card. Thinking better if purchased before 3/36 runs out.

Wait until you get close to 3 year /36k miles. Buy the warranty then if you feel you still need it. Some people are looking to trade out their vehicle to buy something else by the time 3 years is up. A lot can happen in 3 years or 36 k miles. You can still extend the warranty up until then.

Shop it around too. Dealer price is over inflated for these warranties. Make sure it isnt a 3rd party warranty either. Those usually are inferior to the Toyota Factory/Corporate warranty coverage. Also read the fine print...people are often shocked when they find out that "yes they can use reconditioned parts in replace and repair" under warranty.

^^ This. There’s a reason why dealerships push the extended warranties so hard. Yes, some people buy them and use them and may come out ahead. But they are a small minority. The smart money is declining extra coverage. After all, it’s a Toyota!

Theres a reason they push it in the finance portion of the deal too... the closer. Just when you think you're done and out the door price is set they start selling you on all these "must haves" that are usually highly overpriced. They get the buyer at the peak of excitement, caught up in the moment...oh hell what's another $50 a month...:spending:

Just to show how over priced these things are some dude named Toby at a Lexus Dealership in Shreveport (IIRC) was selling the platinum 125k mile / 8 year toyota bumper to bumper coverage for about $1,000. Over on TacomaWorld forums guys were snatching them up like hotcakes. Other toyota dealers caught on complained to corporate and Toby was told to cease and desist.... then you see some folks pay 3 grand for the same shit.
    Ouch.

That is basically what I did... I bought a truck with low miles, and decided to get it covered for 8 yrs because I am keeping my truck for a long time. I got a very good price on my warranty and would do it again. I get it .... it's not for everybody, but if something does happen I am covered thru Toyota.

Totally agree. I may pick up the platinum warranty once I get close to the end of the base factory warranty.

Yup... I got some local quotes and one dealership wouldn't even give me a ballpark number without the VIN. When I kept pushing the issue ... he said, I don't know $2-3K. LOL

That’s the nice thing about having 3/36 time period to wait. It gives you time to think about it and shop around. I’ll probably pull the trigger before Oct 1 this year for my Tundra. I’ll go back to Jennifer again without evening thinking twice about it.

The finance guy that’s telling you only have 24 hours is using the greatest sales tactic ever invented, fear. Don’t fall for the trap. You have way more time than that to decide if you even want an EW and with a little legwork, can blow the socks off whatever he’s quoting you.

I bought a Toyota Platinum warranty when my truck had about 35k miles. You do not need to buy it at time of purchase. Like someone said a lot can happen in 3yrs or 36k. You might sell or total it.

I guess the option of now rolls it into length of loan monthly payment instead of lump sum outlay...

BUT Geico offered the $5 month deal.... for new vehicles. They said 30 day window. Can be cancelled too.

I had an engine and transmission replaced on a used Ford with 70k miles with a 3rd party warranty company. Only had to pay $250 out of pocket twice ... instead of $8-10k. This time, I paid less for a factory Toyota warranty that covers me for 8 yrs, than the 3rd party warranty I purchased previously. I get it though... to each his own.

One of my biggest buga-boo’s about the third party I had with my wifes Terrain was the reimbursement process. Not only would there have been a lag of being reimbursed, they had the ability to take their sweetass time getting multiple quotes from several shops before committing to the reimbursement. I don’t have time to wait around for all that. That’s the nice thing about going with a Toyota EW/VSP. You know exactly where it’s going if you have to use it, and you aren’t paying anything out of pocket if you get the $0 deductible plan.

In all seriousness, you owe it to yourself to send Jennifer Taylor a quick note asking for a quote. I think you might be surprised at what she comes back with and it very well could change how you end up looking at the EW/VSP and how you end up paying for it.

I have owned Toyota trucks since 1989. Never ever needed an extended service contract, and it’s not a warranty. I have had several friends in car sales simply say it’s pure profit as they laughed. They file it under the same “Special Paint and interior protection coverage o_O :rofl:car manufactures used to offer.
Save the money you would spend on the service contract if your that concerned about a catastrophic break down. If your breakdown never occurs, think of the money you will have saved. Think about it.

The odds are so high you will never use the service contract so you might as well-

I think there are some on this forum who ended up coming out far ahead of what they paid for their warranty. I certainly would have the last laugh knowing I spent $1000-$2000 on a service contract knowing Toyota will have replace X, you name it and it’ll probably be way north of that price tag. But I get where your coming. It’s basically insurance. Not everyone will use their service contract so that money will go towards flipping the bill for others that do. Toyota and others wouldn’t be offering them if they weren’t profitable.

If they are so eager to sell the extended warranty, Then the odds are in their favor.

    No thanks.

When you walk on a car lot and the sales guy is eager to sell you a car, do you automatically assume it’s a POS and he’s trying to screw you because he’s eager? That’s their job, to sell. It’s our job to be an educated shopper/buyer and know what the market is for the product your buying. The first offer from the finance guy/gal on an EW/VSP isn’t going to be anywhere near the price what some members on this forum have paid because they took the time to do some legwork and shopped around. I can tell you I paid damn near half on my 2017 Camry vs 2014 Camry, and I even went up in mileage.

At the end of the day, it’s a personal choice in how you assess risk. I tend to think where Totoya is probably the most reliable car manufacture out there, it doesn’t make them perfect. Crap happens!

To me, if I was buying a used car that still had a portion of the EW left, that would be attractive to me and I’d be willing to pay more for the vehicle compare to similar ones on the market. Even if you don’t use it, it can still provide value to you.
