    Howdy,

Well circumstances have me towing a 4000lb Airstream with a brand new Tundra very soon! I have 2-3 weeks before I hit the road for a long haul...

Manual says don't tow for 500 miles and go easy first 1000.....

I guess time doesn't really factor but I suppose I should maybe try to put some nice easy 65mph fwy miles on it asap.

    Any other break in tips?

This is my first brand new vehicle!

    Thanks,

    Greg

Personally I would want to put some miles on it to at least where Toyota recommends before you tow.

Dont drive at a steady speed for a long interval, vary speed. Easy on the brakes for the first few hundred miles. Even tho it is synthetic oil, I still do a oil change at about 1k. Enjoy your truck and Airstream!

I'd follow the manual recommendations for break-in and towing. I waited to tow until I had 1k miles. First tow was only 150 miles with a 22' boat weighing about 3500 lbs. Took it slow, varied speed and RPMs.

No problem... I'm in Phoenix! :D

Curious about brakes... I've added new pads and rotors before and don't recall any warnings about taking it easy.... Had to bed them which involved the opposite of what I'm told to do with a new truck...

    Thanks,

    Greg M

No OEM makes an issue of bedding brakes, as far as I know. Bedding implies a certain protocol of increasing hard stops from increasing speeds. Probably not necessary for any brakes except high performance pads and rotors where the manufacturer specifies they be bedded. The Owner's Manual is pretty clear on this...just take it easy on them for the first 1000 miles.

this thread caught my eye...I tow occasionally with a 16 foot dual axle trailer with a tractor, jeep., or firewood on it. Does anyone have any experience with towing and adding the rear sway bar?

The manual states no hard braking for the first 250 (?) Miles or so. Yep, good luck in Pheonix.

So, what’s the risk with towing too early?

I towed a trailer with some ATVs on it with about 300 miles on the truck when I bought it new last year.

Not really that much weight but I went over multiple mountain passes...
