Have been reading about brake controllers - is Tekonsha P3 the way to go? I have always had heavier trucks and cheaper brake controllers.

If this is the right choice, is it difficult to install?

    Thank you,

    Ted

I'm brand new to this site (I'm getting ready to move up to a Tundra from a Taco) but the BEST brake controller I have ever used is the Redarc Tow Pro, it's what I installed in my 2013 Tacoma. The black magic voodoo box mounts up under the dash and all you have is a single knob sticking out of wherever you decide. I put my control knob through an empty switch blank on the dash so if removed you'd never know it was there. The knob is numbered 0-9 for force and the override is simply pushing in on the knob. It can also be switched back and forth between interia braking and full force all at once for off road situations by manipulating the knob and the brake peddle while at a full stop. It's an Australian product and not cheap but it can be ordered online. I'll probably be replacing or just removing mine before trade in just incase my new Tundra IBC isn't up to snuff, I've been reading there's problems with IBCs of ALL truck brands. I'll take a pic of it later and post it. Really, the Redarc should be a standard in all trucks that have tow packages, it's simple, takes no space and WORKS FLAWLESSLY! It does need unswitced 12VDC (live all the time) to work, I first wired it up using the 12V feed from the truck's brake circuitry and it didn't work right, I then followed the wiring instructions and ran a direct + feed from the battery (fused of course) it worked great! I still haven't figured out why, 12V is 12V!

Used this guy on my first tundra. Easy to use/adjust mounted underneath below and to left of right knee when driving. Did the job, but I'm sure there are tons of good and better options out there. Now that my new Tundra has one installed, it's another addition to the "not in use/taking up space in my garage" section! Good luck, can't wait to see what you go with.
