I have a 55" Samsung LED TV that's about 5 years old. In the last week or so, when it's turned on and there's an image on the screen we can hear a high pitched whistling sound. It only happens when an image is on the screen. If it's on and between scenes in a show, or in sleep mode, there's no whistling. It sounds almost like the noise the fans in our trucks make when they're cold.

Any ideas as I proceed to probably get in over my head by taking this thing apart?

I’d chuck that thing and save yourself the frustration. You can get another one in the same size around 500 give or take

No offense...but i wont buy anything samsung.....it all started when i got their flip phone and the battery died in the first month... They wouldnt replace it, and i am very stubborn. Lol. Hope you get it fixed, but these days there are no tv repairmen, or not many left. Cheaper to just buy a new tv probably....unfortunately.

I've had decent luck with Samsung. 5 years problem free with this TV too. Not really interested in just buying a new TV if I can fix it myself. A 55" TV is going to run me at least $1000 for a decent brand.

I've narrowed the noise down to this board, specifialy the top right hand corners. Looks like a cooling system.

Any idea if I can buy the board and just replace it?

Any chance there is a part number? Maybe replace the board if you can find a cheap replacement and give it a try.

They may end up being my last resort. Looks like this thing is called the power supply board. Finding one for sale is going to be the trick.

I was able to fix one of my tvs buy getting the part on Amazon. My issue was a leaking capacitor and an easy swap. I'd take a look on Amazon.

I just found one from a store in Ontario. $120. Gonna give it a shot. I'll have to figure out the connectors when it comes in, but that shouldn't be too hard.

This is a bad Cap situation too. Caps usually go bad first in power supply circuits. The caps' filter out AC from the rectified DC. When they go bad the AC rides on the DC as noise and sometimes when bad enough you can hear it.

I fixed my dead LG TV by baking the circuit board in the oven to reflow the solder on the surface mount chips. :)

I agree that your situation sounds like it could be bad capacitors and those could be swapped if you’re familiar with soldering.

I think you're on the right track, my buddy had a similar issue and his said he changed his power supply?! board which looked like the one you posted above. I can't recall if he got it off Amazon or Ebay but you can get them. He saved himself $500 quoted from a local tech repair place.
