    Hello,

Been trying to nail a few things down for a while now and need help. In short here is the question and here is where I'd appreciate a little knowledge transfer.

    Backstory:
Recently bought the Fox 2.0 coil overs for my 2018 Tundra Platinum 4x4. My goal was to give it a performance jump behind the wheel to eliminate some sway, bounce, and rolling the default suspension has and the Fox 2.0 setup fit the bill. This provided a 2" lift in front while the 2.0's in the rear provided no height gain. This gave me essentially what the TRD Pro trucks have by default (2" level). Now that the template has been set I started going down the path of what wheel\tire combo I wanted and believe I have decided on the following based on hours upon hours of research to make sure I get exactly what I'm going for.

Method Roost 5.75 back space & +18 offset
    285/70r18 (Nitto Ridge Grapplers)

    The Confusion:
Choosing this tire size was not that hard. Seems to be the perfect balance for me personally between the 275/70r18 & 295/70r18 so many people run. Doing any research its not to hard to find that the 295/70r18 size is the max size for the stock TRD Pro without having to do much else outside of removing the small front mud flaps and maybe just a tad plastic trimming (maybe). The wheel choice (back space and offset) along with the tires play a major role in fit. So fast forward to now. I've been trying to wrap my head around the following as I track down anyone online with the same wheel specs (or close to it) that I purchased having the 2" level setup. I have found a few, but here is the underlying issue I have...

    ________________
My initial inspiration came from this thread where TRD15559 chimed in with his initial setup (stock TRD Pro with 295/70r18 wrapped in Nitto Trail Grapplers MTs). So based on this setup if he ran the exact same wheel that I'll be running and he experienced a little rubbing against the bumper and removed the small mud flaps then going to a smaller tire (285/70r18) should not be an issue you would think.
    https://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-trd-pro/439057-pro-pictures-47.html
    ________________

So lets check another build shall we. Now this guy (Matte Tundra) ran the 295/70r18 with very little issues also, but like TRD15559 he had a little rub as well and thus he trimmed a little bit too. He is running the Method Mesh wheel which like the Roost has the 5.75 back space & +18 offset.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/295-70-18-ridge-grappler-and-method-wheels-on-my-pro.10507/
    ________________

Here is where it gets interesting. This guy (Teflondon100) was the Tundra Limited with TRD package and is actually running what I would like to 285/70r18 on Nittor RGs (with the icon 2" level in front only). However he is on the base TRD wheel that is a +60mm offset which = 2.3622". In order to get the stance he wanted all he had to add was some wheel spacers (Spidertrax 1 1/4). So this is not a like for like, but it definitely proves that its no issue as he only removed his small front mud flaps.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/official-tundra-wheel-and-tire-setups-pics-and-info.95/page-45
    ________________

Almost there hang with me here. The last example is this guy (Marty McFly) also runs the 285/70r18 setup with no issues.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/285-70-r18-2016-stormtrooper-tundra-trd-pro.8065/
    ________________

Now here is where I do not understand as this guy has a Platinum like me and experienced TONS of issues trying to get his wheels and tires to work and his Raceline Shift wheels are 5.7 back space & +18 offset (wrapped in Nitto Exo Grapplers). He also has a 3" lift in the front! The Method Roost wheels are almost identical (5.75 back space & +18 offset), but he had so much trimming and shaving it makes zero sense.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/new-wheels-and-tires.14797/
    ________________

So the novel of examples above leads me to believe that the inside wheel well area for the different Tundra offerings is different between the TRD Pro, Limited TRD, & Platinum series trucks. Its hard from me to believe that this last example has so many issues ultimately having to put on wheel spacers with a +18 offset while TRD15559 and others are running a wheel\tire combo that is over half an inch taller (.6") and almost have an inch wider (.4") with less issues. The +60mm offset guys you would think have less issues and their setup pulls the wheel\tire combo in even closer. What am I missing here?

Thanks for any light anyone may shed on my research and hopefully educate me on something I may have missed. If you break the examples down and do the math to me it just doesn't seem to add up. My goal is to have my Fox 2.0 coil over setup and run the Method Roost on Nitto RGs with only needing to remove the small front mud flaps. Seems like it should be doable, but there are so many variables\discrepancies I have come across that have me very unsure with what I may actually run into. Not to mention the re-stocking fees should they be problematic and I not want to do extensive trimming.

Any thoughts or input you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Blind

@Blindf8th, I see ya did some research. All Tundras are not the same, so you could luck out and have no trimming or you might have to remove the small flaps. I am on the 6112's up front@ max 2 3/4" although it's probably settled down to 2.5". I'm running 295/70/18 Ridge Grapplers with slight rub on passenger front @ full lock. I am running 1 1/4" Spider Trak spacers. It's not enough for me to even remove it. With your choice of 285/70/18 and a +18 offset you should be fine with no rubbing or trimming.

Your alignment will have a lot to do on what needs trimmed and what won’t.

I had the same offset wheel and tire size with 5100's on the top setting making around 2.5 inches of lift. I had to take off the mud flaps and pushed the fender liner up some. I still rubbed a slight bit on the fender liner in the rear just in reverse on an incline at full lock. You should be good to go. I really enjoyed the look of mine. I miss that truck IMG_2874.jpg

Thank you everyone for the input as this has been very frustrating as the alignment tech just adds to the success\failure which i did not know. Along with every tundra being slightly different just makes it all the more challenging it seems. Already have the install set for next Thursday, but maybe ill drop to the 285 65r18s just to be a little safe (dunno). Will post my findings either way to pass it forward :)

What @xtyfighterx said. It’s all about the offset and alignment.

I just looked at the last example. Looks like Renlo had issues with his wheel rubbing the calipers. You won’t have that problem with Methods. And because of that, he added 1.25” wheel spacers, which basically makes it a -13 offset. That’s why he had so much rubbing.

Very interesting joonbug and great info! That has been one of the hangups for me as I just see the bs & offset specs and assume its just simple math, but wheel manufacturers design around those specs can be wildly different. Thank you for that sir.

You really shouldn’t have a problem with the Methods and RG 285’s. At most, you’ll remove the mud flaps, bend in your skid plate corners, and trim a little on the liners. You can also get bumper spacers instead of trimming the liner.

I have 285/70/18 RGs on +0 offset, 3" front lift with UCA, so I run 4.4/4.0 caster. I did CMC but not 100% sure I needed to with 285s. Definitely needed to trim the front liners. I could see the front bumper ends being an issue on stock UCA and low offset wheels if you can't get enough caster. But too much caster and you'll be hitting the cab mount.

5100's on middle setting with 2 shims for 2.5" total and 5100's on rear with Toyotec shackle set at 1" lift. SCS Sr8's +25 with Nitto Ridge Grappler's 285/70r18
    17174.jpg

I had slight rubbing in reverse at full lock backing to the right on the front plastics behind the bumper. Loosened the 4 bolts along the underside of the bumper on each side and pushed the plastic in while tightening the 4 bolts. No more rubbing.

A lot of if it will fit will have to do with your alignment #'s.

For the folks on here with the 285 70r18 setup (or even 295 70r18) do any of you have a full size spare under the carriage?

Nope, I don’t think 295s would fit, it’s just for emergencies so stock size is fine.

Yes. Both fit fine. Even 35’s. You may have to remove the tire guides to get the 295 to sit completely flush.

So you could use a 275 55r20 with 3 285 70r18s? That just sounds like it would not even work even for an emergency. Wow!

285/70/18 stock pro suspension, mounted on stock pro wheels and no rub. I put spidertrax spacers and got rub on the front bumper I had to take a heat gun to the front wheel wells a wee bit. You are correct every truck is different. If your bumpers aren't square that could effect your rub as well. Give it a go and work through it as it comes. The size your going with will be very manageable. If you tried stuffing a 37 in there then we would have to bust the torch and sawzall out haha

Great picture War_Wagon312. Not to many side shots of this tire\wheel combo. Was initially concerned with the wheels hitting the fender rolling over bumps etc, but that looks like it has decent clearance. Ever have any trouble? Thanks again!

OP, I wouldn't drop down to a 285/65/18. Once you start adding a lift to these trucks, that size can look very small. I think Nitto nailed it with the 285/70/18 Ridge Grappler. You are still close to the same size of 295/70/18, but saving almost 10 lbs per tire. The weight on these tires is huge. Based on their website, those 285's are only about 1 lb heavier than my 275/70/18.

Casper3 thank you so much. Quick question... How much lift in inches does the driver side shim (assuming to eliminate the slight lean compared with the passenger side) get you? Also, does the +3 shackles mean 3 inches? If not what is that height?

    Thanks a mill!
