It will be a cold day in hell when Toyota lifts a finger to attack that front.

They didn’t engineer their own Supra for Christ’s sake. Instead They slapped badges on a BMW which they then de-tuned in the name of reliability...

Their other sports car is a Subaru and the Tundra TRD pro is a shock package on an SR5 with a plastic steering wheel. They dumped the TRD supercharger and have shown absolutely no desire to engineer their own high performance anything.

Toyota’s margins are spectacular for these reasons and I don’t see them wasting engineering dollars on any high performance low volume anything.

Not that I’m a bitter child of the 90s and wish for a real Supra and an mr2 or perhaps a celica GTs or anything....

Only chance of that would be if they wanted to build some kind of halo project, a la LF-A. Otherwise I think Ford and Ram have the $100k pickup market cornered for a while.

    Not nearly enough room here!
Toyota's margins should certainly be climbing in these last few years. My 2010 SR5 has standard features not found on new SR5's:notsure:. A freshened interior, a few added V-Crimps on the body, a few LED's and "Drive It For Me" electronics, that are already causing problems. If I were in the market today, it would be a tough call.
Corolla S and Rav V6 were the last ones I liked.

It wouldn't take much arm twisting to put me in a Sequoia, if I suddenly needed the interior space.

    I already have a supercharged V8 Tundra. :)

Back to the Supra.....damn. Give it a rest. They outsourced the build to Toyota’s spec....far cry from a rebadge. BMW isn’t that bad.

Well I guess but for a family car to have 301 h.p. that's pretty sweet . They do have upgraded exhaust. For what ever that's worth. They do look pretty nice. My wife has th 2018 Camry now and wants the trd one when it comes out. Here is hers now.

TRD at least on the Tundra is far from design only but I get your point it doesn’t go far enough.

I think you have your facts confused. The Supra is a BMW Z4 soup to nuts. Built in Europe. It’s a BMW design, all the parts say BMW on them. The engine is a BMW mill with zero Toyota specific parts that’s been off the shelf for a while as is the transmission. The suspension bits and other parts are BMW as well. Toyota tweaked the suspension settings and the software in the ecu. That’s it.

    https://jalopnik.com/what-we-found-...2WmVKcHlIdEkzWHd1ZktacEU1ZXNubHdyNVpZa1lreE0.

    https://jalopnik.com/here-s-where-t...2WmVKcHlIdEkzWHd1ZktacEU1ZXNubHdyNVpZa1lreE0.

Honestly if BMW had given the chassis and Toyota the electronics and engine/trans combo that wouldn’t have been a bad thing, But that wasn’t the case. The future will see toyotas reputation take a hit due to BMW reliability with a Toyota label.

On the other hand Toyota sold the Chevy cavalier in japan as a Toyota and they survived that disaster so...

"The 10-speed automatic currently in the Raptor should still be able to hold up to the big V8's grunt, as it was jointly developed with GM and Chevrolet uses it in the high-powered Camaro ZL1."

"Car and Driver posit that the big V8 monster will command a $15,000 premium over the current Raptor’s $54,450 MSRP. If it’s any kind of limited-production model, it’ll surely have dealer markups well beyond that number."

This article reads like a tabloid. I don't think that I would really want 700 HP in a truck that I take offroad. But the TRD Pro could really use some better tires and a rear locker from the factory.

The demand for the Raptor V8 turbo and Ram 1500 Hellcat may not be as high as they may want it to be, because they would all be $100k trucks. In my opinion, the majority of pickup truck owners are everyday hard working class people. Of which, would not be able to afford to buy any pickup truck in that price range. Plus, on the flip side, wealthy people aren’t really into pickup trucks. They like European sports cars and luxury vehicles. Therefore, that leaves just a handful of folks that can afford those prices for pickup trucks and would be willing to buy it.

It’s different when the average person buys a $40k-$50k pickup truck. Then, spend a few more $ks on mods. From buying cheap parts for mods and trading for parts on forums like this, that’s about the only way that most of us can afford to modify or pickup trucks.

It sure would be great to see and own those types of high performance pickup trucks, though.
