Filters are $16 on Amazon. A tank of gas is how much???

I change my filter every 2 or 3 off road trips.

Off-road everyday so I clean both once a week should probably be doing it more though. Really dusty area and heavy thick mud when it rains a real truck test ground that’s for sure.

:rofl:I remembered that story, and I wanted to tell it to the OP, but it was going to be long and complicated and he doesn't know @dragos28 from an Okie! Besides it's futile trying to talk people out what they believe about oil, filters, and other marketing snake oil.

Suffice it to say @farmer307, @dragos28 had a couple of "puckery" days wondering if he needed to flush the dirt out of his engine, or had already done one of those tornado polishing jobs of his cylinder bores. I saw the pics; man, that was bad.

Well, as I recall :D, the pics of his intake and throttle body didn't just show a light coating of dust particles downstream of his K&N filter!...There was SO MUCH dirt in there, it was making dunes, you know, with those little ripples in the surface!

Yep, @dragos28, was all in about having fun with his Tundra. There's another story about him doing a roll-over in his front yard, but he didn't talk about it much. I came in too late to get the details. :D

We never said you didn't have exactly the right truck for what you do. If you work in the oilfield and are off-road checking well sites, you sure don't won't to be out there in a Big 3...it might be weeks before they found you. :D

Lol can’t say I haven’t been there before down in Texas the mud is different everywhere you go. Down on the coast had an F150 before everyone went out fishing and got stuck except me managed to get myself out and went back in and sank it in Black sandy nasty mud where it stayed overnight in saltwater. Next week after that got me a tundra lol

Hah. Saw your fireman badge at the bottom of your sig. Clear you're not off-roading as a residential fireman...you're a forest fire fighter.

This is from another thread I started here in the general discussion - thought a mechanic might have a little insight. Hope I'm not breaking any rules reposting it here.

Hello all. Hopefully someone has some information to help me. My memory seat won't program. When I bought the truck (2011 Platinum) in 2017 it had 54,000 miles, I was able to at least hear the beep when I followed the programming instructions. Even then, it didn't seem to remember the settings. Now I don't even get a beep. I haven't been able to find anything using the search feature. I haven't been able to find if there is a stand alone fuse for the memory seat. I see there are shared fuses, but the things it is shared with all work fine (power folding mirror, power tilt telescopic steering wheel, power seat etc.)
Anyone have the switch go out? I use this feature on my wife's Lexus all the time, it would be nice to be able to use it on my truck as well. ??? Help ???

Mechanic is on sabbatical, but we hacks try to help when we can. On this issue, not sure I can.

    (1) If all the power seat functions work except the memory, it's not a fuse. There are three fuses, one under the hood (ECU-B1), and one for each front seat behind the left side dash at the ECU. ECU-B1 feeds the ECU, the other two also feed into the ECU, but branch after the fuse to feed the seat switches.

    (2) I would first try to recalibrate the seat memory. Ignition switch "ON", shift selector in "P", run seat to full forward and full up position. Press and hold "M1" and "Set". You should hear a 1/2 second buzz when seat position is set. Move seat out of full forward and full up position using the seat switch. Press and hold "M2" and "Set". You should again hear a 1/2 second buzz. When you press M1, seat should return to full forward and full up. When you press M2, seat should move out of full forward and full up.

    (3) If you want to throw DIY money at it, you could try replacing the memory switch. That switch feeds electrically into the "outer mirror control ECU assembly", which communicates with the "position control ECU and switch assembly" and "main body ECU".

Try this and see if it helps; otherwise, you should take it in to your dealer. The dealer has access to the Service Repair Manual, which has a complete trouble-shooting procedure for the power seats, and they also have TechStream to help in the diagnosis.

In a 2018 Tundra sr with a plain base Vinyl steering wheel, is that wheel interchangeable with the more deluxe leather wrapped wheel found on the sr5 and other models? Not the heated wheel with the wood bits found on the limited, just the 1 up from basic Vinyl wheel, looks the same but leather wrapped, no heating element. I have heard different answers from different people.

Not clear to me how you would get a leather wrapped wheel on an SR5. It's not in the SR5 Upgrade.

But, if you can get a leather wheel, then yeah, it'll probably bolt-in; i.e. if the leather steering wheel is a single SR5 option, the steering column isn't going to be any different, it'll bolt in...but, if it's part of a huge package like that EE package, then all bets are off. Then, you have to ask what does "interchangeable" mean. You won't have any more features on the leather wheel than the old SR5 urethane wheel.

Suggestion: Go to your dealer and see if you figure out what option gets you a leather wheel on an SR5, and the trim level where its standard equipment. Then go into TOCS or Sparks parts site, look up the part number for the trim level where it's standard, and study the compatibility chart to see if it "fits" a 2018 SR5. If it's an option on the SR5, then the compatibility chart will list it as a truck it will fit.

Hello, I'm getting ready to replace my U-joints and Center Support bearing. My question is, once the drive shafts are removed is the Transmission going to leak fluid ?

Well, got home and gave the recalibration a try...no luck. Guess I have a visit to the dealership in my future.

Yes, assume that oil will leak out. Different SST, inserted to stop leakage, are required for each available engine size/transmission.

Are any of you guys have this oil leak? I just changed my oil over the weekend 2016 with 22k miles.. mine is leaking at the bolt.nut at 12 oclock of the oil filter housing. slight drops after a couple days.

2012 Toyota Tundra Oil leak from Oil Cooler 5.7L 3UR-FE

Something the Techs are starting to see is an oil seep that develops from around the Oil Cooler near the oil filter housing. This is usually noticed at the first or second oil changes (10,000/20,000 miles). If you want to check, you can see some evidence of the oil seepage on the skid plate.

You can check it yourself or have your local Toyota Dealer do it for you. If your Tundra does develop one of these, please ask to have the Dealer Technician submit a DPR (Dealer Product Report) and let Toyota know about these. This will not only help other Tundra Owners but also make the product better. There may be a Technical Service Bulletin coming soon
