Nicely done project! Now if they just made trucks wide enough for two kennels in the cab.

How thick of plywood did you use?

I have been thinking about that but not wanting to put my seats and the platform in and out each time I need them. I only have the girls (3 of them) in the rig when we go out of town

Really nice job. I thought about it. I did measure before I bought to make sure a kennel would fit with the backseat.

you could always go this route. It was a custom made bed by https://www.bigdogbeds.com/auto-den.html I got it made so if I have one or two passengers I can take a piece out and still put a side wall on the bed. My dogs love it. All black suede, we just cover it with a cheap throw blanket. It comes with wedges to level it out on the bench seat. I got it made tall enough so when the dogs poke their heads out their paws are on the bed sides not my door panels. If you have big dogs you could make the cushion shorter and sides shorter or keep tall sides. Your platform idea looks clean with the carpet. I’m assuming you have big dogs. Good work, so much room for activities.4754ECE7-2864-4C10-8468-6571CA7A7BC0.jpg B46E050F-F449-4CFC-8833-6429FE3A6B71.jpg 8765D504-2451-40D9-8F3C-C2472CA678E8.jpg 5C8A6E8A-8480-4E10-8419-B1953A470F6B.jpg

So how do those kennels install into the bed? Don't want any wobbling back there.

if you can see in the pic there are metal bars where you can use some cam straps to anchor them to your truck. since i have two dogs i need to hook them up together and then 4 points into the truck. idk if that makes sense. i can take a picture of them strapped up. i just avoid using ratchet straps because they can put too much stress on the kennels

How do you like the kennel? I am looking at buying one for my dog. He rides with me everyday for about 100miles. He is making the transition from back seat to truck bed (I have a topper). I was deciding between Gunner and Dakota kennels. Would love to hear your feedback

i’ve never had a dakota so i can’t say anything about them, but my gunner kennels are amazing. you can just tell by the way they feel when you’re handling them that they are built well. they are really big. you’ll notice the space inside for your dog is a lot smaller than what you’ll expect. i have two 55lb staffies and the intermediate crate is their perfect size. so keep that in mind. i’ve read some reviews that the doors didn’t fit when people were installing them, but when i was putting mine together it fit just fine. gunner kennels will definitely not be a bad choice

Thanks! I think I will go with them. My Chessie is 85lbs and the sizing chart on the website came back with a large so, to hear you say the staffies fit in an intermediate makes me feel better.
