Have an 05 that just starting making a grinding noise and the ABS light pops on intermittently. I ran the codes and got c0210 (right rear speed sensor) and c1238 (foreign object on top of right rear speed sensor).

I took the speed sensor out and inspected it. It was pretty full of debris. I cleaned it off and saw metal showing. Not sure if it’s supposed to look like that or if that’s the magnet. From there I reinstalled it and cleared the codes. Yet I still am getting the same issue.

Before I start ordering parts I’m wondering what you think? I’m thinking it’s an ABS sensor or a wheel bearing. The rest of the sensor cables look great so I don’t think that’s the issue but I’d buy the cables and sensors either way.

Also took a picture of the oil that’s by the speed sensor, not sure if that has anything to do with my issue.

    Let me know!

You might have a blown rear axle seal which is leaking diff oil. This oil leak happened to me due to the rear axle breather being stuck in the closed position and the heat pressure inside the axle blew oil out the seals near the wheels.

As far as the ABS and the diff oil leaking being correlated, its possible. This ABS problem is not one I am familiar.

I bet your sensor is fine. Replace your breather and axle seals, and have new bearings pressed on and you should be good.

x2. I'd change the diff oil too, and make sure the magnetic drain plug isn't heaped with metal debris. Some fine "fuzz" on the magnet is very normal, but you don't want to find and chunks or flakes. The sensor is covered with iron filings, most likely from a failed wheel bearing.
