When I bought a 1996 4runnner it had the RS3000 alarm/remote entry system but no key fobs, so I bought some off ebay for my year 4Runner and I followed these directions and it worked great.

    http://www.remotesremotes.com/v/vspfiles/photos/prog/toyota/rs3000.pdf

About 3 months later both remotes stopped working. So I tried the same procedure...no luck. I then changed the batteries in both remotes, again, no luck. Very frustrating. I figured there was little chance that both remotes just broke simultaneously, so I took the RS3000 control unit out of my truck and carefully took it apart. It's very easy to do. The circuit board had some obvious corrosion on it....nothing terrible, but enough to stop a signal. I then used QC electronics cleaner to soak the areas of corrosion and very lightly scrubbed it off with a soft bristle toothbrush being careful the whole time. I put it back together and reprogrammed the remotes and voila, they have been working like champs for 6 months.

TLDR version...check remote batteries first, if that doesn't fix it, then take out the RS3000 control unit, disassemble it carefully, carefully clean any corrosion using electronics cleaner and a soft bristle toothbrush, reassemble/reinstall and reprogram remotes.

Any chance on someone posting a pic of the location of said circuit board?

The RS3000 control unit for my 4runner was under the drivers seat and very easy to get to to take out. On a scale of 1-10 of mechanical difficulty, it's like a 1-2 on my 4runner.

According to this thread, the location on a Tundra for the RS3000 is a much bigger PITA to get to...it has a few pics as well. There is a bit of confusion in the thread, so I suggest reading all of it...it's only 2 pages worth.

Apparently there isn't one for Tundra's equipped with the RS3000....or at least many FGT owners have reported being unable to find one.

Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
My 2003 Tundra has the RA3000 system (according to Toyota) and the security light is located to the right of the dash dimmer knob.

I recently bought this fob and programmed it according to the directions.
