Will be doing this here soon. I guess I forgot to buy step 6) Hydro2, is that needed? If so, why and is there an alternative? I bought a gallon of Chemical guys butter wet wax, will that work?

    @War Machine

    1) Wash
    2) Apply Carpro Iron X
    3) Rinse
    4) Claybar (I use a Nanoskin mitt)
    5) Wash again
    6) Apply Hydro2
    7) Dry
    8) Apply Sealant (Beadmaker)
    9) Stare at beautiful truck for hours

Hydro2 is just another layer of protection. It's a spray on sealant that has really good longevity. It's a great base for the bead maker and outlasts it, so you can wash and reapply beadmaker a few times before needing to apply the hydro2 again.

Before you open the gallon of Butter Wet Wax, I'd see if you can return it. While it is easy to use and leaves a nice shine, it lasts about a week or two, and then it's gone. I have a 16oz bottle that I've had for years, and it just sits on the shelf behind better liquid carnuba waxes like Jescar ColorLock.

Like Pudge said, it’s another level of protection. The Beadmaker will wear out long before Hydro2 does. In my experience, Beadmaker starts failing at around a month. Hydro2 lasts, in my experience, at least three months.
Beadmaker produces a much higher gloss and shine than Hydro2. You can certainly do either/or, but you’re losing either durability or shine. The benefit of using both is that your paint will still be protected if you don’t reapply Beadmaker every month or so. I’ve used both on their own, and while they both do a great job repelling water, the combination far exceeds the water shedding results of just one or the other. When both are on there, it’s pretty crazy.

Now this part is just my observation, but it’s been corroborated by a few other members here. Beadmaker looks fantastic on it’s own, but to my eyes, it looks way better when Hydro2 is under it. It seems like my paint pops way more with both. I’m not sure why it is, it just seems to be magnified. Like I said, it’s anecdotal and hard to prove, but other guys here agree. @driverdog had the same observation, though he prefers Beadmaker as a base, and Hydro2 as a the topper. I have yet to try it that way.

Gyeon Wetcoat is an alternative to Hydro2. It’s cheaper up front, but not long term. Gyeon Wetcoat comes ready to use, Hydro2 is a concentrate. You’ll get way more uses from a bottle of Hydro2, but it’s more expensive up front.

GYEON quartz Cloth Wet Coat (500ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OORR2N8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_iG3KCb8R0B7HX

As for the wax question - If using wax, it should always be the last thing applied. Wax has a much lower durability than sealants, so it’s going to fail much sooner. If it’s on bottom, it will take the sealants with it. That’s not just my opinion, but the consensus of the detailing industry.

I’d say if you’re going to use Beadmaker, skip wax altogether. That said, I just put wax on mine last weekend, which was already coated with Hydro2 and Beadmaker. I only did it because I already had the wax, and wanted to try it out. It looks great, but wouldn’t be a regular thing for me.

Looks like I'll be ordering some Hydro2 before I clay bar. Thanks for the detailed info! Not sure how I missed this step when I ordered everything. Just when the wife thought I was done buying detail stuff.

I bought it from Amazon a few months ago when they had 25% off. Not sure if I can return it now.

Guess I need to try this Beadmaker. Love Collinite 845. Been my go to for years. Impressive posts about Beadmaker though.

So what size should I buy to do my truck, a 2018 Honda Pilot, 2004 Accord 4 door, and a 2002 Silverado 1500 extra cab?

Do you recommend the lite or the stuff you dilute?

    Thinking about getting this.

    https://www.carpro-us.com/protection/carpro-hydro2-lite-1-gallon/

    or this

    https://www.carpro-us.com/protection/carpro-hydro2-concentrate-1-liter-34oz/

    I think I'll order this.

@jason.bird definitely buy the concentrated stuff and mix it yourself in a spray bottle with distilled water. You can change the ratio to find what you like. I think I finally settled around 8:1, I think anyway I wrote it down in my detailing cabinet. Also it's much cheaper as a concentrate than the pre diluted "lite" version.

I’d go with the concentrate. The lite from what I’ve read is diluted about 10:1. I like it at 6:1.

I also have four vehicles I use it on. I haven’t quite finished my first bottle I got over a year ago, and that includes giving some away. It really doesn’t take much.

If you want a ready to use bottle, I feel like Gyeon Wetcoat is stronger than Hydro2 Lite.

Boise is a good 3 1/2 hours from me, $5.00 shipping is much cheaper.

I bought a few gallons a few weeks ago so I should be good for the summer.

I'll give that stuff a shot when I place my next order.

Haha! My wife laughed after I had to purchase the hydro2 this morning. Box after box showing up the last month of detailing stuff and somehow you missed the most important part.

    @War Machine

Hopefully next week the weather will be nice and I can start this whole process. The hydro2 I ordered showed up today.

Do I need to dry before I use the iron x or just follow the below steps?

I'm assuming befor I clay bar the vehicle should be dry?

    1) Wash
    2) Apply Carpro Iron X
    3) Rinse
    4) Claybar (I use a Nanoskin mitt)
    5) Wash again
    6) Apply Hydro2
    7) Dry
    8) Apply Sealant (Beadmaker)
    9) Stare at beautiful truck for hours

I don’t dry until after Hydro2. It’s not necessary that it’s dry before iron x or the clay portion.
One thing I don’t have there is a clay bar lubricant. There are some dedicated clay bar lubricants out there, but I just use any detail spray I have available. If you don’t have one already, any store that sells car wash supplies will have something. Griots Speed Shine is a good one that is readily available, but any of them will do. Just keep spraying it liberally while you use the mitt.

This is a pretty good video to get an idea of using the mitt.

I was finally able to give my Tundra a full wash. Got my new Sun Joe 3000 pressure washer last week from Amazon. Used my MATCC foam cannon (1.1mm orifice installed) with Chemical Guys Mr. Pink (side note...don't be a dummy and think the foam cannon isn't working when you forget to put the hose into the bottle part! DUH!). Cleaned my tires up first. Foamed one half the truck. Two bucket wash with Mr Pink. Foamed other half. Washed that half. Full rinse. Then dried it using Chemical Guys After Wash with CG waffle towel. Hand polished with Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Shined her up with beadmaker over the entire body. CG VRP on all the plastic outside. Spruced up the tires with Sans-Zo Tire Shine. Truck looks and feels amazing and I swear she can feel the love and drives even better than before! Beadmaker is freaking awesome. one question...would it be beneficial to add a layer of wax like CG Butter Wax over top (or before??) the Beadmaker?

And before anybody says anything I should've probably clayed and IronX'er her during the process but I didn't buy any clay or IronX yet.

I haven’t tried that particular one, but have used their Shine All Performance Dressing. It was terrible. It seemed to be very similar to Waxaddict at first, but it was gone within a week. No durability at all. Because of that, I’d not have a lot of confidence in their other tire products. The Double Black is supposed to be superior to their base products, so I doubt the one you linked is any better.

    https://psdetailproducts.com/i-17540360-shine-all-performance-dressing.html

In my opinion, Optimum Tire Protection and Coating is far and away the best tire dressing on the market. I seriously can’t see me going back to anything else at this point. It’s longevity and ease of use blows everything else away. Price is great also. I’d probably pay double what they sell it for.

One coat has a matte look to it, but you can add up to three coats to increase gloss. Two coats is perfect for the look I want to achieve. My wife prefers more gloss, so I did all three coats on hers.

After a few weeks, I experimented with putting some glossier stuff on top of it, and it seemed to work well with the coating. It wasn’t necessary, but as usual, I have enough different things laying around to be able to try it out.

What I found with this is when your regular tire shine wears off, the Optimum base layer remains. It makes them much easier to clean before putting your shine back on. A high pressure rinse was all it took to get them clean again.

Once again, this is for the people who want a high gloss. If you’re like me, and don’t want them sparkling, just the Optimum TPC is perfect.

I definitely recommend you guys give it a try. If you like Waxaddict, this has a very similar finish to it, but lasts longer, and is easier to get.

Did you get any pics? I’d like to see your results, especially since I haven’t used several of the products you did. That Beadmaker slickness is something else, isn’t it?

As for the wax, that’s up to you. I put wax over mine a few weeks ago, and it looked great. If you do, put the wax on last. The general rule is the longer lasting products go on first. In almost all cases, wax will have the lowest longevity of the different types of products. Sealants, like Beadmaker, almost always hold up longer than wax.
I’d also recommend that you not do it at the same time. Give Beadmaker a few days to a week to cure, then apply your wax if you want.

Don’t sweat the clay bar and IronX. Most people don’t do all of that. It’s not mandatory that it be done. I would definitely recommend it in the future though. You’d be surprised at how much it improves the shine of your paint, even before using a sealant or wax.

You couldn't get that Ford emblem wiped off the truck?
Nice job, it definitely looks good. I can't wait to do mine. Also convinced my girl friend to let me do her highlander. She said it looks fine. I said run your hand along your car, then mine. She couldn't believe it. And mine has had 2 washes and 1 application of hydro2 in the last 2 months. The beadmaker will blow her mind, then maybe umm.... ya know she will be a happy woman.

    Combo of hydro2 and beadmaker?
Hydro2 is a fairly long lasting sealant, lasts a few months. Goes over clean paint. Beadmaker is a selant but doesnt last as long but is much shinier and slicker than hydro2. So you put beadmaker on over the hydro2 to increase the longevity of the hydro2 and make your truck look better.

Ironx is a spray deconning agent that removed iron deposits in the paint or protective coating. Its spray on, spray off. I believe safe to use on ceramic where as something like a clay bar could remove the ceramic layer over time. I use ironx once a year, followed by clay. It removes any metal in the paint without actually touching the truck so when you clay or wash it's less likely to scratch

Oh and reload is a spray on sealant. Lasts longer than hydro2. Was originally designed to go over ceramic coating to protect it and give a nice shine. But it can be used without having ceramic as a sealant. I think it lasts longer than hydro2 and shines better. Takes more time to apply than hydro2. Goes on a clean, dry car, whereas hydro2 is sprayed on a wet car, rinsed with pressure and dried

Then almost definitely they already did iron removal. You don’t need it.
