Hey folks , new here. I have owned a 2006 Tundra sr5 double cab 2wd since 2008. I got lucky bought it from my dad with 24,000 miles for $10,000. Anyway, in the last few years I have bought a class A motor home diesel pusher and a 2012 Jeep liberty to tow behind the MH also from my dad. I decided that since I am paying ins and taxes on the Tundra and the Jeep Liberty I needed look for a truck that I can tow behind the MH and also use on a normal bases being I only use the jeep as a tow. I would need a 4x4 truck that has a neutral selection on the transfer case. After checking out all the trucks for sale and having heart palpitations over the prices of even older used trucks . I decided to fix up the ole Tundra and add a driveshaft disconnect so I can flat tow it. Here is what I am doing, first I removed the interior and carpet. I scrubbed and pressure washed the carpet, got it really clean but not perfect. I looked for a replacement and really got sticker shock when the only carpet I could find for the double cab that could be bought was from a oem parts dealer for around $900.00 ( Factory list was $1300.00 plus) . I scrubbed the leather seats, have ordered leather dye to touch the seats where they were the leather was worn , ordered a drivers seat bottom because it had a worm through place . I ordered a new cable for the defrost damper control which had was not functioning properly. I will replace the shocks, with some sort of upgrade and redo all brake pads and finally I will do the timing belt /water pump . which is way over due ( 150,000 miles on truck) and upgrade the stereo. Oh and I did order a set of weather tech floor mats for front and back. I figure I will spend around 2500.00 on this truck . Compared to the cost of even a 2010 to 2012 I will save a ton of money and have a good reliable truck. I realize that pickup trucks have become sort of like a farm tractor, they are holding their value and are worth spending money on to keep them going rather that trading in every couple of years.

Thanks for the reply's, I have learned in recent years joining a forum has great advantages . I have joined several other forums after owning certain vehicles for long periods of time and have learned a lot. I have done my own mechanical work for 4 decades and I still am learning from others experience . BTW, Grey Wolf , I actually just started on this project this past Sat. I usually jump in on something wide open.

    Welcome from Indiana.
Fyi rockauto has rubber floor instead of carpet for our trucks. Have not seen it how they look but did notice they had it.
