So I had my first oil change done yesterday. I had them put on the metal filter cap I saw in the forums. Drove it home yesterday. Tonight I ran up to the store and on my return I now have a 6 inch round oil stain in my parking spot.

Looking at the new metal cap. Was there supposed to be a plug in the center? It looks like it has threads showing in the middle.

Yeah, The boys at Toyota did the work. And all the Auto Parts stores have the part listed. But available at the Dealership only.

Yes, you were supposed to take the original plug cap and swap it over to your new metal filter assembly. Somebody at the dealership screwed you.

Wow! Those guys change the oil in those trucks everyday and didn't think to put the plug on!?! Sorry OP, yes they were supposed to use the one from the plastic housing.

That's because the plug has an O-ring. This is what it is supposed to look like.

I don't go to Toyota for service anymore. They are EXTREMELY expensive and do shoddy work. I had a bad transfer case on my first gen and took it to two Toyota dealerships and BOTH of them screwed it up. The second one not installing a seal properly draining the transmission fluid from my tundra not once but twice. I finally took it to a mom and pop shop and they fixed it right and for cheap (comparatively). Cost me over $3000 by the time it was all said and done. Will NEVER go back. I love Toyotas but hate the dealerships.

This is total BS, and I would be pissed as well.

This was my first 5.000 service. So I went ahead and paid extra for the oil change. Since I wanted the metal filter housing installed.

I just pulled into the dealership and they are working on it.

I'm not sure if they forgot to transfer the cap to the new metal housing. Or just didn't torque it down.

Either way I'm glad I saw the leak in the day time. The night before I just drove it at night.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
Make sure they top off the oil and not just put the plug back in.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I don't have the metal filter-cap yet but from what I've read on here, you pry up the tabs that hold the old tube on and replace it with the new one, make sense?.
