TPMS Sensor Re calibrating?

Any ideas before I bring back to tire shop?

Had wheels and tires installed about 1.5 weeks ago. They moved the TPMS sensors over and everything was working. Took a small trip on Wednesday and saw error saying something that sensor malfunction, take to dealership. Tried to do the reset and now it’s on this screen. Drove for 30+ mins and it’s still there...

 

Head back to the tire shop, get some gas on the way...

 

I had the same issue and had to take it to the dealership to get it fixed.

Dang, hoping to avoid the dealership. Hope they won't charge and hope the tire shop can take care of it

 

I’d try the tire shop first, since they just worked on it. If a sensor is broken, then it would have been their doing.

If a sensor has just failed, then you might have to visit the dealer and try to get it replaced under warranty.

 

Seems if a sensor failed, then it would just not read the one that’s bad. The system doesn’t seem to be reading any of them. Have you tried unplugging the battery and letting the ecu reset? Then try and calibrate again?

 

That I have not tried. So when I turn if off and turn it onto the ON, it blinks for a minute, then the light would go solid

 

I’m having another thought here. Did the tire shop actually move the sensors to your new wheels like they were supposed to?

Or did you bring the original wheels with the sensors still installed home in the back of the truck and park near them up until you took your trip?

 

I'm pretty sure they took if off. The OEM tires and wheels were undone and everything. And I've been driving to work and TPMS was working fine the whole time up until Wednesday

That’s what I tried to reset

 

TPMS Relearn Button on 2018 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia 1. Ensure all tires are inflated to the pressure listed on the tire placard. 2. Start the engine and keep the vehicle in PARK. 3. Press the Tire Pressure Reset button three times. 4. Drive the vehicle for 10-30 minutes at 25mph or faster and the light will turn off once the sensors are registered. Refrain from reversing and driving in heavy traffic during the relearn process. 5. The Tire Pressure Reset button must now be pushed and held down until the TPMS light blinks three times to set the baseline tire pressures. 6. Drive the vehicle for 10-30 minutes, staying above 25mph when possible, and the light will turn off once the current tire pressure values are accepted.

Stopped by discount as that’s what was ok my way and they said one of the sensor is dead and they don’t sell any for this truck

 

Just got my truck back from the shop.. I had a dual blowout (small single car collision) had to have two rims and wheels replaced. They put in new sensors..

Ive got the same thing happening to mine right now.

Now the shop that did it is telling me i have to take to Toyota for them to clear and recalibrate.... I tried the long steps from above, possibly i didnt ride around long enough. was the dealership able to fix it? @paradizecityz

 

How much pressure are you running in your tires??

 

when i checked they were right.. 42 is what they were when i bought them and thats what toyota has been keeping them at.

 

When I put new wheels, tires and TPMS sensors on my truck. It took a couple of days with me messing with the reset button to get it straight. If the shop where you had them installed used air instead of Nitrogen in your wheels, this time of year you're going to get a pretty good swing in pressure. That may be part of your problem.

 

been driving it a few days already. Start off by trying to reset the button, wait for it to flash then drive for quite sometime.

 

When you start off can you see your pressures on the display?

I had to buy 4 new sensor in my case. But that’s because I tried using steel wheel sensors but needed the alloy sensors.
2 different part numbers. Haven’t had issue since I changed them...*knock on wood*

 

hopefully if anything needs to be replaced.. the insurance/bodyshop will make it right.. the old sensors got destroyed.. so either the new sensors are fucked or not the right ones for the wheels i have. we will see.

 

Did they use OEM or aftermarket?

 

i assuemd OEM.. they said they went off what the VIN said to use. that said, it could be bad or incorrect.. or maybe they got a sensor that was meant for a different wheel. Not sure. I dropped it off at Toyota for lunch and they are going to send the other shop the bill since its still an open claim.

Did say that more than likely it was a bad sensor... i just find it weird, that if one is bad NONE of them register.. Id assume it would just be the one bad one would go out. easier troubleshooting.

 

Did your car come with steel wheels or alloys?

when the shop put the new rims on, they didnt put the correct sensors in.. "said" i had to go to Toyota to calibrate it.. toyota discovered its the wrong sensors. Getting two new ones put in at the tireshops expense.
