Today I learned why SOS offers shorter rear shocks, the shocks they offer are 3" shorter than standard. The lower / level rear only kit states that you can continue using your standard rear shocks, I chose the least amount of height reduction @ 3.25" and stayed with standard length shocks.

Right away I noticed that the ride was stiff as expected, but not all that forgiving & sometimes a harsh ride on rough roads... I also noticed that my drive shaft would strike the bottom of the bed. I had to stop the drive shaft from striking the bed so I installed the Air-Lift kit SOS offers. The air bags did the trick, and they also reduced the harshness I felt when riding on a rough surface. I added wider tires with a lower profile a few months ago, they increased ride firmness and steering responsiveness.

The short shocks were installed this afternoon, and my drive home felt more supple... it felt smooth. I will give them a workout over the next few days, and see if my first impressions are proven correct. This is the first vehicle I have ever lowered, and I am learning as I go.

I have learned that SOS makes great kit, and even though I hadn't planned on buying everything they offer - I am glad I ended up with the full kit. BTW, if you are frugal like me and want to save whenever possible, the Bilstein part# is 24-024792 (Ford F150 2WD). I purchased mine from SOS, but you can save money buying the shocks elsewhere.

Another Craigslist find, Iron Cross running boards.

A better look at what was done to lower the rear end, and tie the suspension together.

I have put about 4000 miles on the Proxes, I have rotated & balanced them 3 times and they show very little wear. Traction with these tires is great, and that equals a quicker response to steering, acceleration and braking inputs. These tires also act as torque multipliers... I am turning 3150 rpms @ 65 mph in S-4.

I am now focused on this... a custom Dirty Deeds cat-back was ordered 09/11/2019.

    How the factory exhaust sounds

This is the factory original tailpipe resonator, it was relocated to the end of the muffler.

As of last week I am back to rolling on the 255/70/R18 Michelin LTX M/S mounted on a spare set of alloys that are painted Super White, this is my cold weather wheel & tire combo.

    IMG_7632.jpg

Today I installed the custom 3-muffler cat-back along with a factory tail pipe that I shortened just a bit to clear the leaf pack on the passenger side. I will be evaluating this Dirty Deeds cat-back and how the DAP tune responds over time, but I can already report that the sound is intoxicating... it produces a deep rumble at start up, and it is undetectable at idle.

    IMG_7650.jpg

This new muffler system should be good for 3-10hp and 10-20tq over stock at full throttle.

    IMG_7651.jpg

Approximately 24" of turn out tail-pipe was removed via hacksaw.

    IMG_7653.jpg

This exhaust system makes my truck feel 1000 lbs lighter, it's much more responsive than it was with the stock exhaust.

3 different lengths... front to back: 16", 10" and 8.5" after the Y-pipe. The goal was to keep the truck as quiet as possible, without sacrificing any potential power gains.
    IMG_7644.jpg
It idles quieter than stock, produces a nice deep bass tone under throttle and snarls like a beast at WOT.

As mentioned in my previous post, I had to remove 24" of tailpipe and it appears this reduction in tailpipe makes the resonator incompatible - it has been removed.

The abbreviated tail pipe and angle cut turn down exit results in a nice exhaust burble when I let off the gas.

It sounds much better than what the cell phone captures, the cell phone does not pick up the lower tones & rumble but they are present.

The DAP tune that I installed almost 13 months ago remains my #1 favorite mod. It breathed new life into this old truck, it increased drive-ability and it makes my new BAMuffler perform that much better.

    Awesome thread

So much in fact last month I picked up your Twinkie by chance. Wasn't looking for one but stumbled apon a 2008 Ultra White 5.7 2WD RCSB and had to buy. Having owned 4 Tundras I knew this was a unicorn.

I have been going through your thread to prepare my parts list for my UW RCSB 5.7 SOS 3.25 rear lower kit and has been VERY helpful ! TY

2020 begins with 290,439 miles on the odometer.

1/12/2020: I added the aFe Magnum FLOW Pro DRY S Air Filter to the stock CAI.

@Rex you inspired me, I am plan on starting a build page and document my maintenance and Mods for my 2007 Black RCSB 5.7L 2x4. Hopefully it will help some of the forum members with their Maint/Mods/Builds.

Does your DAP tune allow you to tune out traction control ? I find myself turning it off Everytime I drive and even then it still isn't completely off and kills the fun...

No, I have to turn it off manually every time.
From what I gather, we need to install an Auburn LSD PRO to put the fun back into driving these like a muscle car. I have adjusted my driving habits until I decide to install the LSD or not.
