3 yr old son and I took a quick trip to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas. About 2/3 of the way there from the Dallas area, we stopped at Monahans Sand Hills State Park just east of Pecos:

After a quick supply trip to the last Walmart on the way, we headed south towards Alpine and beyond:

Very tempted! But they're pretty strict about that and have signs all over prohibiting that kind of activity.

Closest legal area to wheel a street legal vehicle is about 2 hours from me. The rest are several more hours away, unfortunately.

Once we entered the park, we took Old Maverick Road, an easy, gravel/dirt road that runs about 17 miles south to Santa Elena Canyon.

We later turned back and took Paint Gap Road, another easy trail with primitive campsites along the route:

Afterwards, we did some sightseeing and toured the Chisos Basin area of the park before we had to head back home:

Nice pics. I noticed your truck in another thread and you were mentioning possibly leveling your truck. Did you end up leveling it? Any regrets with the 275s? Still weighing my options (and trying to convince my wife I "need" to modify my new truck ... lol) but I may end up going a similar route. Thanks!

No regrets at all with the 275s. They inexplicably rub at stock height even though others running the same size with stock suspension have no rubbing.

I have some Bilstein 6112s I plan on installing. Just haven't had the time to swap them on yet. So still stock height but hope it'll settle with a tad bit of rake once I do.

Tell your wife you need the mods to improve the truck's handling for safety purposes. Nothing but the best for her and the kids - lol!

It took us 2 days to get there because we stopped at Monahans and other places along the way taking our time. Same for going back. But I'd say it takes about 9-10 hours to get there from the Dallas area. Either way definitely worth the drive if you have the time!
