Has anyone heard of “elephant insurance”? Shopping around for car insurance and this seems to be the cheapest. Is there another one that anybody recommends? Thanks.

Never heard of it. You get what you pay for in my experience. Paying the higher premium sucks until some jabroni hits you and won't pay up, has no insurance, has a crappy provider etc.

I have Allstate. Have had way too many 'not at fault' accidents. I get a check immediately to repair my car, and they do the rest. Cheaper providers wait till everything is settled to pay you. They won't front any money.

Cheap insurance is cheap for a reason. Go find a local independent agent and have him/her get you multiple quotes. A good independent agent will save you thousands of dollars and many headaches over the years.

Safeco, Nationwide, geico and progressive have all been very good. AAA is really good and expensive but does offer a few nice Perc’s depending on were you live.

I’m an agent with Farmers and have briefly heard about “Elephant”. I agree with what’s stated above, you get what you pay for. I think “Lemonade” or whatever it’s called that did a lot of renters coverages and is now branching into homeowners.

My beef with them is the amount of assets they keep on hand to pay claims. I think I read somewhere that Lenonade has like $28 million. They’re one catastrophe away from becoming insolvent. I’m not risking my belongings to any company like that...

Oh and by the way, our auto rates suck right now.

Makes sense. I wanted to check if anyone had had any problems With them and have opted to go with another company.

I would re-shop the insurance every year as well. Its to the point now companies pretty much don't care about customer loyalty, go with a reputable company that gives you the best price. Have to be careful with some that will give you a great deal to jump ship but then the next year they are going to raise it on you. If your with a company for awhile and they decide to raise it on you then shop around. My insurance tried to raise me $100 more dollars for my annual policy this year, trucks a year older and driving record has not changed...so I re-shop it. Money is tuff to make you have to try to hold onto the most every which way you can.

That’s true! I’ve been with Geico for 5 years and every year that have raised my price by like 40 bucks. It’s getting to the point now where it seems like they are bending me over.

I think its done on purpose now and in small increments so most say "well its just $40." It adds up if they keep doing it and most will unless you call them on it, if mine goes up $10 I'm cross shopping and then calling them back with the results and I give them the opportunity to keep my business first.

I had Allstate and just switched to farmers for better rate. Allstate just said call us when you want to come back.....they always do. My rates are high enough with three young drivers, 5 vehicles and a motorcycle. Oh and no accidents or tickets.

I agree with others on here. Cheap insurance is cheap for a reason. Don't be the one to find out why they are cheap when you need to file a claim. It's not available to all but USAA insurance has been good to me.

Had Nationwide for years. Switched to Progressive for a while and Nationwide called and said they missed us, so gave a rate to get us back.

If you switch insurance, make sure you cancel the old one. Do NOT just let it run out. Even though you are insured it shows up that you may have been uninsured. It's just a pain proving you had coverage.

I work with insurance claims every day, please stay away from Progressive and State Farm. Both of these companies could care less if you’re happy. Talk to body shops if you want to know how your claim will be handled, just my .02 worth. I’m sure people have had great luck with both, but I deal with around a thousand claims a year. I personally have Nationwide with an OE rider and am very happy.

I switched to Met Life Auto after being with Geico and Progressive for years. Couldn't be happier. Decent rates too. Handled my recent rear end accident flawlessly.

Check out Root Insurance. You have to download their app and drive for period of time for it to learn your driving patterns to see if they will even offer you a quote. It looks at factors like time of day you're driving, turning, breaking, and how consistent you are overall. It took me approx 3 weeks before I got a quote. It's also not available in every state.
Saved me about $700 per year when switched from progressive for slightly higher end coverage. Living in Louisiana, being I think #2 highest insurance rates in the country I got fed up with paying absurd amounts for having a perfect driving record.

Be careful, cheap is good but you don't want a company that will jerk you around when it's time for service. I used to hop around every few years to get competitive rates in my 20s, but have stayed loyal to GEICO for probably 15 years now. Service is prompt with no hassles when we have to use them, and if I see rate creep I call and ask for a break and they ALWAYS give it to me. When I was hopping around all that was happening was I was getting new customer discounts that would expire in a year, then I'd have to move on because the company was un-willing to do anything more for me since I was only with them for a year.

I've found building up a long history with companies can be of use. They look at how many thousands of dollars they've made off me in the last decade-plus compared to how few at fault accidents I've had and do whatever is needed to keep me on. I’ve been there long enough that I’m a profitable customer. People like me make up for money they lose elsewhere. If you’re with any company for only a year or two at a time probability is higher that they’ll pay out a claim that costs more than the total they’ve made on you. I'm now married with a clean record for the last several years and insure all 3 of our vehicles for not much more than what I used to pay for one when I was young and single.

I was with Geico for the last 11 years. When I bought my 19 Tundra, they gave me a $400.00 a year increase. I never had a claim. Progressive quoted me less than what I had been paying Geico on my 13 FJ Cruiser. I made the switch. However, they monitor your driving for 6 months. You can use a plug in to your vehicle, or a mobile app. I use the app. You have to be conscience of speed, and braking. It's made me a better driver, and my gas Milage has gone up.

I'm not loyal to any insurance company. I have no trust in any of them. If involved in an accident, I will have an attorney negotiate with them.

Independent agent with 15 auto carriers. IF you get a reasonable quote online or directly through whatever company more times than not your local agent can BEAT that price. Also independent agents have access to companies that you can't get quotes directly from.

I hear they're better than Pachyderm Insurance.

( Hurr-durr, OK please don't shoot me)

I've currently got GEICO; have previously had Shelter and USAA. Shelter was complete crap, at least where we were. USAA has been absolutely fan-freakin-tastic, but they're proud of their rates. GEICO is the cheapest by far around here (I think I pay like $100/month for 2 vehicles, full coverage, 100/300/100K, roadside, $500 deductibles, blah blah).
