    Hey guys.

So recently my brakes have been very mushy and after starting the vehicle I usually have to pump them a couple of times before they get responsive. I took it to my mechanic last week and he ordered a master cylinder, but after trying to install it today he discovered that it won't fit. There is a piece between the master cylinder and the large round "UFO" (sorry, not sure what that is called) that he has never seen before and the Toyota dealer can't even tell him what it is, they just want to sell the whole unit to us for $500.

Does anyone know what this is and where I could maybe find an aftermarket one? I'm going to check around at junk yards to see if there is one I can pull.

    Thanks!
    FSG

You probably shouldn’t do that and just stick with the factory parts. You could pull the ABS fuse but then if something happened you could be liable. I keep wondering if it’s possible to use one of the standard master cylinders on the other first gens. My 03 sequoia doesn’t look like that but it also has disc brakes in the rear. I still don’t understand why they added that little piece and didn’t make it like every other master cylinder I’ve worked with.

I noticed that after posting. It says for 04-06 tundras. Maybe it’s just a stock photo. It was the first one that popped up.

I believe that is for the rear. As you can see from @Stats thread, there is a lot of confusion around this part, even with dealers. (Surprise!)

Pretty good chance the abs is apart of the entire traction control systems. I would think atleast.

See my previous post... link above (as others have posted) thread #32, 34 for the work around.....
PLS DON'T buy a salvage part... seals will prolly be degraded n leak like it did mine... IF you can find one... my salvage part lasted a week.. tops..

Good Luck.... seriously buy the P/N listed above n save yourself a LOT of headache.

Well, he put it back together and the brakes feel fine, so I'll see. If I decide to get a new one I'll probably just get the Toyota one for $500.

Brakes seem to be working. He bled them so maybe that's what they needed.

I'm needing help with this same problem before we have a baby in a week and we need the Tundra with the rear seats for the car seats.

My Master Cylinder blew out, and I believe it was the Hydro Flow section inside. They did the classic : 'Try ten wrong parts before they realize that the truck doesn't have skid control.' They sent it out to see if an engineer could repair the original.

Until then I've been hunting used car lots. Apparently the OEM Toyota is $6000. Does anyone have a link for the Master Cylinder part for the no skid control 05 Tundra Crew Cab?

    Many Thanks,
    -Ben

See these two posts - you have to buy the whole brake booster assembly (47200-0C073) to get that center piece. https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-power-brake-booster-472000c073

And the 47200-0C073 part at the link is for sure for the non-skid control (ABS?)
There seemed some confusion of skid control vs ABS vs Traction control.
Whatever it was, mine was the non and irregular.
Sorry to bug you, I just have to be careful before I drop the cash and horn in on the mechanic.

Yes. This is for trucks without VSC (Electronic Stability Control). When you order through Toyota, give them your VIN and they can confirm the part will fit your truck.

    upload_2022-8-15_12-14-55.jpg

Skid control (VSC), Traction control (Auto-LSD/TRAC), and ABS are three different systems. Your truck can have all three, none, or or just ABS.

Whether you have ABS or not doesn't affect the master cylinder though. If you have something that looks similar to this this on the left-hand side of your engine bay, you have ABS.
