Gonna be ordering my tires soon and i was curious on people's thoughts on the ridge grapplers vs the ST MAXX? Pros Cons? I know some are going to say go with a more aggressive MT tire but I live in northern minnesota where we get dumped on with snow so unless someone has good experience in snow with an MT not gonna work for me.... I'm going with 295 70 18. On a 3in toytec boss lift with UCA's and shackles in the back Let me know your thoughts.

Which way did you end up going on this? I'm having the same debate currently.

I live in Sask, Canada so see a lot of ice, slush and snowpack in the winter. Also drive a ton of gravel in the summer.

I'm about to pull the trigger on some cooper st maxx tires. I'm currently running my second set of bfg ko2s I'm also curious how you made it through this great winter we've had in Minnesota this year with either of those tire choices.

Just read his build thread and it looks like he went with the Ridge Grapplers. I was also leaning towards the Coopers based on other reviews, so hoping we can get a first-hand account from @Dustydirt19

Check out Cooper AT3 XLT. Similar look and specs compared to RG but 9lbs lighter each corner. Recently had a set installed, very happy.

My ST Maxx's do quite well with all the snow we've been getting...

Are the coopers on the right? I'm currently considering a set of them.

Not bad at all for a AT. Hybrid tread design to minimize road noise.

I can’t speak to the Nittos but I had S/T Maxx on my Tacoma and now BFG AT’s on my Tundra. I realize they are different trucks with different handling and tracking, but here is a general impression.

The BFG’s are better than I expected for ice and snow road driving. Generally better on-road skills. Decent on gravel, meh in mud. Better traction on the commute for a Canadian winter than the Cooper. Great blend of for a weekend warrior.

The Coopers are better off-road in mud and rocks. A step closer to being a mud tire than a road tire. Much better in the winter compared to a Mud, not as good as the BFG for everyday winter driving and storms. Also excellent on gravel fire roads. Much more confident to go deeper offroad with them. Little more noise than the BFG but only really noticable while cornering.

So for a truck that is 90% city life and 10% overlanding or play, the BFG feels like a better choice. But if you’re going to be closer to 50/50 or pushing deeper down the trail is important, the Cooper is better.

How many miles on the Coopers and how many on the BFGs? I have only had one set of each and the Cooper seemed to give consistent traction over 40k whereas the BFG seemed to loose its traction after maybe 20k and ended up worse than the Cooper. But these were both ran on a 2014 4runner, so I am not sure if it will be the same on my Tundra.

I can’t comment well regarding longevity for either. I don’t have enough miles on the BFGs yet as the truck is a 2018.

The Coopers I ran for a while before I sold the Tacoma. I don’t remember exact numbers other than I was surprised at how little tread wear there was and how evenly they wore.

Sorry I can’t give you more specific numbers.

I've noticed my Maxx's do quite well in wet conditions. Not prone to hydroplaning. Not a lot of siping but tread is designed to evacuate water and it does it quite well.

They can be studded but winter sort of over. We're supposed to be getting 5 to 10" in Denver on Wednesday.

Yeah we can't run studs or chains like you guys can in Colorado. We're hopefully done here but the snow won't melt away for a while so I gotta be prepared so I don't end up like this again lol.

Got them put on today had to take front fender liner out and the mud flap I'll trim and modify them to work later but besides that 0 rubbing with 1.9 inches of lift from 6112s probably less now with the sso bumper. No rubbing at all and plenty of room for the body mount.

Method double stanards +25 still alot of room between the tire and uca.
One thing is i feel like i loss some braking power but that is a given with 40 pounds more of tire.
Also speedo is off around 2 mph at 55mph. I'm gonna order a hypertech to fix that. The truck is a little slower the shift points have changed a little but its not bad I can deal with it I don't think I'd go any bigger than this. The real test is to see how she tows.
The truck does ride buttery smooth though and quiet.
