As the years go by recently I have noticed a lot of people with headlights on during the day. I know some people have running lights. But if there is a way turn off the lights why not turn them off. Next thing you know people are going to walk around with flashlights during the day and say hey notice me. Lol

Best is the ones that need high beams when it's raining, during the day

And those who believe their DRL's are the same thing as Headlights, when Head Lights, Tail Lights AND Side Markers are needed in rain, fog, snow, dusk, dawn and DARKo_O

Rain on mirrors, side glass and windshields, why would we want to be visible in those times?

The recent law in California requires headlights on if it is raining (if you need the wipers, headlights are to be on) during the daytime.

Good Lord..Guys. I know I'm exhibiting risky behavior and all, but luckily the scorching amber drls have been satisfactory. Maybe wiper headlights can be tech streamed?

I have seen that in the past. Not recently, but I don't drive long distance much anymore. It used to happen most frequently in broad daylight during the holiday driving periods. I always took it mean they were self-righteous hypocrites telling all the rest of us to slow down and drive safely. :tinfoilhat:

Amber delete, aka "depin the gray wire"?

But, you may want to rethink that. Those amber DRL is what makes you visible to others during limited visibility if you don't turn on your headlights. Getting into an accident by making your truck look better is not a good idea.

Some rigs like my wife’s 14 4Runner Trail do have daytime running lights, but do not have auto headlights. So, she just leaves her headlights on all the time and you don’t have to mess with the back and forth from DRL to full headlights, and the lights auto shut off after you exit the vehicle.

I would rather be seen, so if you notice my lights, mission accomplished. And I would like to see your vehicle sooner than later.

This right here. It's not so you can see during the day, it's so others can see you. And I notice cars with headlights on during the day sooner then those that don't.

I can understand heavy rain, dark low clouds, and other variables in viability SHOULD spark an interest in turning headlights on. In California where weather is categorized as boring and we are lucky to get 10 inches of rain per year, I allow the auto headlights to turn off and on based on darkness. Occasionally dark clouds activate the light sensor, but for an auto manufacturer to not merge wipers and headlights with some intelligent programming is short sighted.
The way people drive, and if visibility is a concern, it's pedestrians that share the lions share of risk. I'd be more worried about all people wearing ANSI High Visability Vests on sidewalks and roadways then worry about my humongous truck and bright yellow drls that America drove forever without.

So many rules exist that make sense in the ideal, but like plastic bags, paper bags, paper straws, third brake lights, gun restrictions and soda size limitations .. I'll rely on my own common sense... and if someone is triggered, they can kiss my ass. Lol

Maybe Toyota will eventually program this in... 2025 perhaps? Bwahahahaha

After driving an 18 wheeler, I can tell you this much......people don't seem to realize that when it's raining moderately or heavier on a multilane highway, those 18 wheelers kick up so much spray from the wet road that it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to see you in their mirrors through that spray if you don't have your headlights on. Your vehicle just flat disappears in the mist.

I disabled the day time running lights on my Tundra a few days after I got it. I don't actually mind the lights on during the day while I'm driving, but I want to be able to turn off all my lights at night and still leave the engine running.

There is a lot of difference circumstances that are understandable of having headlights on when its bright and shiny...(NOT)...but yes when there is weather. I'm no rocket sicenst but maybe you can save your life span for your bulb by not having it on all the time.

My 2006 Tundra did not come with DRLs (yay). On my 2018, I can turn off the DRLs (and all lights) with the switch on the turn signal stalk.

I ran with my headlights on while driving thru Canada up to Anchorage. I recall seeing signs on they way to have them on. I think it's the law up there. Maybe one of our Canuck members could clarify that to verify I wasn't seeing things or delusional after driving for hours on end......

Your Scorching DRL's are the only light by which others can see you in those foggy, snowy dimly lit days. Try to visualize Tail Lights and Side Markers in those conditions and how they'd help you be more visible. I don't know of any vehicle DRL's that include Tail Lights, hence the term...DAYTIME running lights.

I wish DRLs did include tail lights. I see a lot of people during my morning and evening commute that think their headlights are on since the DRLs are bright enough to see in traffic, but no tail lights.

You're correct, we've vacationed in Canada every year for the past 36. Canada wants your headlights or DRL's on.

Exactly. ..I prefaced my previous statement with OTHER THAN POORLY LIT, STORMY, ADVERSE CONDITIONS and apparently light rain and good visibility has the safety/human resource committee in an uproar. ..

What's next? Reducing everything to a mandatory position/law because all of us are too ignorant .?
