So I've been doing some research/shopping for a 2019 Camry XSE. I test drove a XSE V6 and a SE (dealer didn't have a 4cyl XSE) I wasn't overly impressed with the 2.5 so I'm leaning toward the V6. I've been doing some reading over on Toyotanation and there is one issue that seems to be mentioned a lot, that being the 8sp Auto transmission. Is it as horrible as they make it sound?

Wife wants one. The v6 would be the only option for us. They are very sharp. Have not test drove one. But will in the next month or so. So, curious if this thread goes somewhere.

I have a 17 4 cylinder. I got it rather quickly and didn't research the other configurations they had. I wish I got the v6.

Yes, I have it in Highlander and I hate it. I wouldn't get it again.

I also have the 8sp in my Highlander. I've never had anything higher than a 6sp and it definitely takes some getting used to.

I currently have a '19 XSE I4 and no issues with it. Before I got my Tundra, I traded my '18 XSE I4 with no issues and I out 26K miles on trade in. Before getting the '19 XSE I4, had a '18 SE with no issues. So I've had 3 Camrys in the last 1.3 yrs. The SE was involved in an accident (not our fault, truck failed to yield at a stop sign) had 16k miles on it. I'm on the Toyota nation forum. I also notice that the people on there that have issues complain about any and everything. One member swears up and down that using premium fuel solved his woes with the transmission as I laughed while reading it. It's electronically controlled and fuel has nothing to do with it but he believes otherwise. I responded that it's as believable as putting horsepower stickers on my windows.

Drove a '19 four cylinder around for four days. The engine was gutless and not smooth. Great MPGs though! The back seat way too small.

Do you find the 4cyl XSE to be more responsive in sport mode compared to normal mode? I only test drove a 4cyl SE model without the extra mode switches and wasn't impressed. I'm going to test drive a XSE model before I completely rule out the 4 cyl model. I d

After sifting through the info @ Toyotanation I did come across that thread.

My Tundra has been trouble free and my last six Honda Accords have been trouble free. My 7th Accord, a 2017 required a short block replacement @ 1500 miles, so it seems that nothing is made like it used to be.

The first 4 were used and the past three were leased.

It is more responsive because the throttle sensitivity changes as well as the gears being held longer. I had no issues with the Camrys. The mileage will suffer but that's the game you'll play. I've taken it on a long trip from San Antonio to Fort Walton Beach, FL averaging 42mpg.

On the freeway trip yes I did. You can easily get 40mpg on the freeway. Do you have a V6 or I4? Here are my statistics using the app fuelio. I input every fill up since new along with a picture of receipt.

I'm still in the thought process. This would be the goal

I'm looking at the V6 since the last time I went 4cyl I regretted it. It's hard to find White V6 Camry that doesn't have the two tone paint or red interior, so I'm probably going to have to have it ordered.

My problem is it would mean giving back the Tundra at the end of the lease. It was my first truck and I've only used it three times for "truck" stuff but I still like it enough to want to keep it. I've got about 10 weeks to decide what the hell I'm doing

Mission accomplished! Finally tracked down a 19 Camry XSE V6 in the exact configuration I wanted. There were only two in the New England area. I stuck with my signature silver color instead of the white. I'll post pics later once the snow melts off it. My old man is treating himself to a retirement present and buying out the Tundra at the end of the lease, so it's not goodbye to the Tundra world.

You will be very happy with the v6 over the 4. But if not, I'll take it.

My lease is up on the Corolla this summer. I may get a (used) Camry. Emmy wife has the 4 banger, but with 208hp, it can move lol
