    I drive a '17 5.7 FFE
Tundra and for better engine performance and trying to improve gas mileage, I've recently upgraded it with a TRD dual exaust and a TRD drop in air filter and I've noticed that the sound of the exaust is changing each time I drive the truck and also they way it performs. Is that because the ECU is adapting to the new upgrades? If yes how long will it take to the ECU to fully learn the new configuration?

Did you also remove the charcoal filter in the air box? Depends on how much you drive. Some say disconnect the battery and reconnecting it will speed up or essentially make the computer re learn more effectively.

The exhaust is just breaking in. Carbon starts to build up inside and the fiberglass starts to shrink a bit from the heat. Nothing to do with the ecu.

I didn't remove it, is that located under neit the cover portion of the air box? What is his function by the way.

    Correct.

Emissions control. I believe its to prevent fumes from reaching the atmosphere through the intake when the engine is shut off.

Most take it off to help increase airflow. Once you take it off, you'll see it does add restriction to air flow.

If I'll take it off it will permanently or I can put it back in place?

Permanent removal. Once it’s off, no way to put back.

If you're careful taking it out you could put it back if you wanted to.

Is there a particular way to take it off? Also if I do take it off will affect the emissions inspection?

Gently pry it off. It may tear when you take it off. It wont effect your emissions in NC.

I did the same setup as you, and it does take a few thousand miles for the exhaust to 'break' in. I have 7k on the exhaust and air filter and I believe that the engine breaths better and the exhaust sound has improved. Overall, I'm happy I did it.
