IMG_20190308_163444.jpg Rolled over a snow bank (well really ice bank) and tore the rear step off my factory running boards. I mean I wasn't exactly going fast, but dang.

It's the mass and velocity of the.vehicle against an immovable object that did the damage, not the object itself. Your truck is heavy. Ice does not compress. Add a little forward motion and *poof* there goes your step.

Actually, its good to have that break away rather than snag your whole truck and possibly turn you unexpectedly. I get the whole rock slider application, but there are trades.

I've been wondering how these would hold up going over something like that. Now I know.

When I got my truck I had to have predator steps but now, even before seeing this pic, I've had some reservations. I may end up going with rock sliders that have a lip you can step on.

the oem predator steps are for show. they are not meant for any impact resistance. if you look at how thin the metal is and how maleable the metal is, you would be surprised how easy it is to bend/snap those steps. you can literally bend them hitting them with a mallet. had those on the 2016 tacoma and they are great for normal use, but during the winter months up here in ND, they collect snow horribly on the leading edge. learn my lesson on those and went back to a full coverage running board on the tundra to cut down on the snow build up along the door rocker panels.
