Hell it's all new to me. I need to find out what everyone else is using before I waste my money on something I don't need or understand lol

I've heard good things about the BaoFeng stuff and seen larpers/airsoft kids speak highly of them. I always wondered how they compared to the handhelds you could pick up at Academy/Best Buy/whatever.

Honestly it's a good idea to have both.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ZLB0E4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_n.MGCbESHGN8F

That's the CB, I'm using. Happy with it, simple and effective.

Not sure about the Academy version, but supposedly these little BaoFeng units are pretty good.

Obviously, there's other units you can hardwire in that may be more powerful.

But, for my needs at this time the hand held works great.

That looks significantly smaller than my old Cobra I had in my '85 K-5.

I was just speaking in general to the more well known Motorola, Cobra, Midland branded stuff. It seems like range on those is limited and usually just line of sight. @ChadsPride how far have you been able to use them? I know the listed range on most of that stuff is across open water or perfect world conditions.

Would be cool to find a hand held capable of Cb and those other things you mentioned. Really this stuff is all over my head. I'm used to using radios at work but they aren't very complicated

@because_v8 I think the big money gets spent on the HAM stuff.

Side note, after our conversation yesterday Sublime Radio was on all day on my Spotify.

Anybody here want 1st dibs on some GoRhino RB20 for crewmax before I post them in marketplace? I I got them a little more than a month ago (2/01) and I also have an extra set of warranty boards they sent that are still wrapped in the box that I would include. I'm located in DFW if anybody is interested.

I also have a set of factory chrome running boards (less that 1800mi on them) as well that I would let go for a screaming deal...

Oh, yeah. Those old units were huge!

I like the look of them but don't have room for one any larger.
~5 miles out in Big Bend
They are very reasonable and it's a good place to start.

For a CB? you'll want a tunable tip firestick

I run a 2' around town (mainly because it fits under my carport and it's red and I think it looks cool, and it was free lol)

But I throw on a black 3' firestick when we run out of town together.

I have that cheap uniden CB, it’s fine for the most part but the cobra 75wst in my wife’s FJ is way better. The big thing is get a quality cable and antenna and tune it properly. Rightchannelradios.com is a great place to get a cb setup. I also have the Baofeng (3 of them ) and they’re great. Way more clear than a cb, easier to setup and use, and I’ve gotten close to 10miles with the standard antenna it comes with while I was in Moab. Best to have both imo.
