I didn't see anything on this in my search but on a Tundra Platinum with the one piece power rear window has anyone found a good way to mount a rear facing dashcam? I have a BlackVue 2 channel cam on order and need to figure out how to mount this.

For now I am thinking that i will need to find a way to mount it to the rear of the center headrest.

I folded up a thin piece of metal to slip over the rear of the headliner and placed the rear camera to that. That way there is no permanent holes or makes if I take it off.

I’d suggest dropping the headliner a little and mounting it with a short self-tapping screw into the metal of the rear of the 3rd brake light housing. It will give you a solid mount, come around the headliner and look nice, and won’t interfere with the window.

I just did this - I used some Kydex I ordered from Amazon. Heated it up and bent it to the approximate angle. You can adjust the rear Blackvue once it's mounted. Awesome camera - I have the 900 series. Great video!!

I slid it up under the headliner so it has a better angle and isn't interfering with seeing. I'll try to get a pic or two if you need it.

Did you tuck the cables in the headliner? Can you take pictures of your setup?

Yes - it was very easy to run the wires using a plastic pry tool and going slowly. The biggest issue is there's a ton of extra wire left for the rear camera in the Tundra. I tucked it up into the headliner trying not to push it too far forward. I was thinking it could possibly interfere or get tangled in the sunroof mechanism. I'm not sure what's under there...

I ran the rear camera wire off the passenger side, and the front camera off the driver side.

I am also using the battery pack which I tucked under the driver's seat.

The battery is tapped into the fuse box under the front hood as there wasn't a 15amp fuse under the dash in my 2018 Platinum that didn't draw power with the ignition off. You only want power to recharge the battery when the ignition is turned on - otherwise, you'll drain your truck's battery.

I will try to post something up. I was thinking about a short video. I'm buried most of the weekend with work but, worst case, I'll knock it out Monday.

All good ideas!!! The cam should be here this week so once I take a look at the mounting bracket and the headliner/rear window I'll decide on which option to use. I am leaning towards the Kydex or magnet (this one is interesting). Once i get it mounted I will send pictures.

I have a DRS650 2CH on my Lexus and it was really easy to install that one. The most time I spent was to find a good power source. I ran the wires on the right side of the car but on the Tundra I will be running them on the left since all the work to install the Fortin alarm and RS will be on that side. I will be doing both the cam and alarm/RS at the same time to avoid taking everything apart twice.

If the headliner is easy enough to pry, then combining a strong magnet glued to kydex, maybe it will help with stability.

I now have my BlackVue dashcam installed and was lucky enough to find a weird looking bracket for the rear in some old stuff that I had. It's kind of "W" shaped and hooked into the rear window gasket at just the right angle to not hit the glass or pinch the seal. It's made of clear plastic and is about 1/8 inch thick. Made the rear cam mount really easy. Thanks again for all the ideas.

Looks like a bunch of great installs. Looking at it gave me an idea though- if you got a used/wrecking yard 3rd brake light assembly, wouldn’t it be possible to drill a hole in the reflector, mount a small camera inside the brake light housing, and run your wire forward through the cab, above the headliner?

I would think that would work if the camera is small enough and did not interfere with the light itself. Unfortunately the BlackVue one is probably too big for that. Maybe others have a smaller camera.

I had to do nothing with the headliner. That was probably the easiest part of the entire install. All I did was to tuck the wire under the door rubber molding at the top of each door. Once you get it under the molding you can push it under the headliner. At the B pillar once again I tucked it in place. The A pillar molding has to be removed to run the power down to the dash. only one screw there and just pull it off. At the front and back glass again you can just tuck it in. That was it!

just curious, but how useful is the video from the rear dash cam at night? I figure that either you're going to be getting a reflection off the rear window, or you'll just have the headlights from the car behind you wash out the whole picture
