Last year I traded my 2013 Ford Focus with about 100,000 KM (~62,000ish mile) and got a new 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport, doublecab, long bed. Going from a small hatch or a midsize truck still seemed like a giant step up in terms of space - fast forward to now, I cant stand driving the Tacoma. I didn't realize on my test drive how low the ceiling was, or that I rub shoulders with my wife if we're both in it. Not to mention the almost non-existant back seats that I doubt I could fit any adult of average height.

I'm thinking I want to trade in my Tacoma for a Tundra. I've found a 2017 Plat in white at a local dealer with about 20,000 KM (~12,000 miles) for $50,000 (Canadian dollar, may seem inflated to US readers). Viewable here If I go and test drive this, is there any known issues the Tundra has that I need to look out for? Or any areas on the body that are known to rust? I'm sort of new to the Toyota scene, and truck scene in general. My family is die hard Ford drivers.

I'm debating if I want to get a used one now with higher trim, or wait to the redesigned ones come out (hopefully) in the next 2-3 years.

Welcome! I’d recommend buying a new one. Btw, don’t listen to @Marty McFly if he suggests a white truck. He drives a Delorean

You can not go wrong with the Tundra but you should get it cheaper with some negotiating

If u want (or have) kids, need to tow often, want tons of interior room, love big power and dont mind parking further out in the lot..get a Tundra.

If you offroad alot, (like real off roading), have lots of city driving with cramped areas, dont haul lots of kids/dogs/adults...keep the Tacoma.

In the end its all your preferance and decision. I switched from Tacoma to Tundra and will never go back.

Do the upgrade. By the way if you don't mind scratches the Tundra can be quite capable off road. Tight turns can be a pain but I've taken mine down jeep/atv trails here in CO.

I have no ambition for offroading. It'd be a pavement princess. My commute to work is around 25 minutes through small town streets. I live in a town of about 60,000, work in a town about 20,000. One of the reasons i sold my Focus ST was that it was so low to the ground it would often plough fresh snow.

How are these trucks on the highway? My tacoma doesnt like to shift to the final gear when i set my cruise at about 115km/h (70ish mph).

Ideally I'd like to buy new, but i want leather and i don't think i have it in my budget to buy a new truck with the higher trim with leather.
My wish list is: 4x4, crewmax, 5.5' bed, leather, maybe a decent stereo. Ive heard mixed reviews about the JBL in these. But its got to be better than whats in my tacoma.
Do any of these have remote start?

Tundras drive like a dream on the hwy. Big, powerful, room to stretch out, quiet. Depending how "used" you are looking for, some 2017s and 2018s arent THAT much cheaper than new if they have low miles (depending on where you live). Depending on how quick you're looking to buy, new cars for 2020 will hit dealer lots around sept/oct...might be able to score a hell of a deal on left over 2019s or even 2018s.

"parking farther out in the lot"...Funny but oh so true.

Get the white Platinum now or regret not doing so later.

As far as the price goes, their "Dollar" is only worth .75 cents in real money.
