I'm about to order a set and don't have the tools/experience to install myself. Anyone have suggestions for install around the D/FW area? I had a few quotes and was surprised at what some shops wanted to charge. Any suggestions appreciated!

It's actually pretty simple. Watch the video.

The hardest part is the coil overs surrounding the front shocks. If you’re gonna pay somebody, it may be cost effective to purchase new coil overs already installed on front shocks instead of paying somebody to remove them from old ones and place on new ones. You could always check the Services—> Automotive section of Craigslist and have somebody come to your house and do it, it’s pretty simple..

The install is easier with two people and if you have some mechanical experience. The assembly is easy only if you have access to a wall mount or caged spring compressor. A few have done it using the regular hand-held spring compressors, but I couldn’t figure out how to use those on mine and it just looked too dangerous to even try.

Hall’s Tire Shop in Lancaster charged me $20 so I could use their caged compressor to assemble them myself. The going rate to compress the springs and assemble them used to be $50 about 15 years ago. Don’t know what it is now.

Walton’s Total Car Care in Waxahachie quoted me $200 to have my 6112s installed, but I opted to do it myself. Once assembled, I installed them on my own in my apartment complex parking lot using hand tools. But I’ve done suspensions on other vehicles and have R&R’ed transmissions, torn into t-cases, pulled axles, installed headers, welded on frames, and a bunch of other shade-tree stuff with the exception of engine work and wiring. It may or may not be daunting for you depending on your experience.

One thing I miss and don’t see much among local Tundra clubs are “wrench-a-thons.” WATs are when a group of folks meet at someone’s place and everyone pitches in to help fix or install whatever it may be. The person or persons having work done on their vehicles usually supply the beer, pizza, burgers, donuts, etc., for the wrenching party. Of course, it helps to meet at someone’s house who has a full set of tools and a flat driveway if they’re willing to host.

Otherwise, check around for a local shop to install them for you. I think $200 is a fair price.
