    Hi There,

I have a Toyota Tundra 2014 5.7L V8 SR5 CrewMax. Recently I have been trying to read and learn more about the cars in general. I have a question for your guys. My apologies if I am posting this in a wrong section or if the question is not valid, but here it goes:

When in parking mode I rev the engine it sounds fine until I reach the red RPM zone which is above 6000 RPM. As soon as I get to the red zone the engine / the whole truck is vibrating as if the engine is about to get out of the hood. I know I am not supposed to to go beyond the redline on RPM but on the other hand I think that there must be something wrong with the engine - why would it start shaking? No vibration on any lower rpm or idle. Regular oil changes.

    Kind Regards,

    Muralha

Engine will shake a little when it's nearing the point of exploding. :D

but really the engine shaking you are experiencing is probably just the rev limiter keeping you from blowing the engine. It will "tap out" limiting it per say. I advise you not to do this or you are looking at costly expense for something totally unnecessary. You have a 2014, HIGHLY doubt engine mounts are shot.

All my other cars will shake when you hit the rev limiter. I haven't tried it on my truck yet because I love my truck.

Yeah modern engine now have rev limiters to protect the engine. Depending on the engine it will either bounce off the reline or vibrate the truck (like you mentioned) to try and get your attention that you've approached redline.

What would even possess you to red line a unlaiden engine? Apparently you just don't like your engine. Or you have more $ you just want to spend at the dealership replacing your engine. And yes, they can tell when you over rev or run it out of oil.

I hit the rev limiter once... because I forgot to shift. Oops! Also once in tow haul mode it decided to bounce off the Rev limiter in between shifts. Just a blip but I heard it!

Actually, it's a rev limiter, not a governor per se.

I activated the rev limiter once in a kick-azz chipped C4 Corvette racing an impertinent jeep up a freaking mountain. My dang Vette kept cutting out, backing off, going again, then cutting out, all in fast motion, etc. I'm thinking "WTF, Why won't this thing go any faster, I'm racing a damn jeep". I realized later that it was the rev limiter that held me back, and that tweren't no ordinary jeep. I did finally beat him to the top though. :D

Many "rev limiters" operate by cutting the spark to a spark plug or two or three when you get to the predetermined RPM's (the red line) thereby forcing the engine to back down. Or something. I'm not sure if the Tundra's system operates this way or not. Bueller????
