anyone see the new gmc commercial with the 6 function tailgate? I guess dodge has something like that also with the 60/40 gate. Interesting.

Can you imagine the cost to repair that tailgate?

I'm good with my old fashion tailgate. It can hold me while I sit on it to drink my beer. What more can a guy ask for?

But I will say, I do like the step GMC included in their bumper

I don’t get it. I like the Toyota bed step. Simple and who cares if your tailgate opens two, five or even twenty ways? Seems like a gimmick to boost sales, but won’t get used much in everyday life.

I saw that ad. Just another gimmick. More stuff to fail. I like the inset step like @ChefJose showed above. I also like the Toyota fold down step.

Anyone know the price on the fold down step for the tailgate? I’d be interested.

If your truck is lifted, or too old to raise your leg (LOL), and the tailgate is down for whatever reason; it's kinda hard to get into the bed. I think I will be getting the AMP Research Bed Step.

I am wondering how much they will "rattle" after a few years. It seems like more hinged / latching parts = Rattles after time.

I think they are a neat concept but not sure about longevity with all the moving parts. Innovative though.

Anyone get the survey from Toyota about these tail gates? I received one not too long ago. Some questions were about if if you like the tail gates these other truck company offered, would you be willing to pay more for it, etc. seems like they are trying to incorporate more other items for the next generation Tundra.

Geeez, all these haters hating on the bad ass GMC tailgate up until their future trucks copies that tailgate. You open and close the car doors everyday and never a problem with the moving parts. Which means the tailgate will be perfectly fine if it's open and closed everyday but that's only if it's a work truck. If it's not a work truck, that tailgate will probably be open and close once a week! I'm all about the Amp Research automatic tailgate step but can not stand the ugly side step bumpers with the slot on the the sides to put your foot in to step on. They are ugliest looking bumpers in my opinion and if GM would make a bumper without those side steps, I will definitely buy it and paint it.

    Not nearly enough room here!
When I compared the "Toyota" Amp Research step to Bestop's Trek Step , I bought the Trek Step because of the larger step surface, for a lower price. They're identical in their operation.

The swing out tailgate from Dodge seems nice so you can reach further into the bed. no need for it to be split in half. anything else seems gimmicky, too much to fix etc.

I'm very happy with my assisted lowering on the Tundra.
Although I do like that Chevy/GMC step.

Same here for beer, my tailgate is for beer drinking..
I have a Bedrug bed mat and tailgate mat.

One problem with the GM "Pro Series" tailgate is that if you have a trailer hitch on your bumper and you drop the center section down with the tailgate down, instant dent in the tailgate.

The only problem I see with Rams new style tailgate is that with anything that is hinged in the way that it is hinged will ultimately sag.

Both are good ideas, and are just that, good ideas. In reality, they are just gadgets that will fail or cause more problems than what they are worth in the long run.

Keep it plain and simple. Its a truck, not a SUV or a car.
