Despite my attempts, I still don't own anything belt fed, a rail gun, or a drone that launches missiles. To even think that Joe Citizen can possess what the government does is laughable.

Said my piece. I'm bowing out. This thread is getting too political for me. Train hard and steady my brothers.

Not to mention a lot more unstable people and less real fathers to teach them (or smack into) a sense of right and wrong.
Luckily, I had a grandfather and father that smacked that sense into me and taught me how to handle a gun of any caliber. Even after that, I STILL got classes.
It's a right, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't practice said right.
It's my right to free speech, but as all of us married guys know, it's not always a good idea LOL

Not to mention they actually had Gatling guns at the time of the forefathers. Some peoples logic is ridiculous.
I guess domestic enemies meant deer and bears and foreign meant tigers and elephants? Huh?

Let's not lose focus on the topic at hand. The OPs post was on Constitutional Conceal Carry without no training/fees.

We keep getting into the right to keep (nobody is stating that one can't own firearms) and the next was the right to bear them and this is a gray area that the courts have not answered. Here is some light reading...
    http://blog.constitutioncenter.org/...s-it-mean-that-there-is-a-right-to-bear-guns/

As for now, some states you can open carry in most areas unless defined otherwise. I've said it before, not a big open carry person for a few reasons.

However, on the topic of anyone Conceal Carrying without training is just a recipe for disaster that will tarnish gun ownership like no other. I'm 100% for gun ownership and what you do in your home is your business. On the flip side, you go into general public places with a concealed deadly weapon without training...you are now my problem and will have my full attention. If your not going to spend the time and effort even proving you are proficient with your selected weapon, does that sit well with most people? Would it be ok to just issue drivers licences with no written/practical test?

I get it. Life is busy, ammo is expensive, your buddies wanna play XBox or watch the game....the excuses go on. We try to get out at least one time a ever couple months to practice more than putting a few holes in a paper target.

I don't know what kind of people you hang out with but no one I know shakes while holding a gun especially being in a military town (Colorado Springs) I find your statement unbelievable. When I took my CCW class it was 90% female and 70% teachers that the class was being paid for by schools they worked at "designated security officers". Just to give you an idea of what kind of people are carrying in CO. And everyone that I know that wasn't raised around guns and wanted to get a handgun sought training and use of a handgun before being bought. So calling them an untrained idiot doesn't make any sense. But if these aren't the type of people you associate with then by all means please keep them from getting a gun just don't push that on me. Just a side note about keeping guns at home. Last year Colorado had a pretty scary problem of a certain type of people and I say that because it was the same people going from hospital to hospital asking questions about security cameras, response times, hospital layouts and other security type questions. The area of there inquiry was from north Denver all the way to Fort Collins. Nothing came of it but for me knowing the hospital I worked at was being probed by people with bad intentions and me being completely unarmed kinda freaked me out.

Who said I hang out with these people or even in the state of Colorado (this was actually in CA & IL)? That is an assumption on your part. I said "I have seen" since being legal to shoot , and just because this is a military town, doesn't mean the ~640K individuals in El Paso county are military. When I was in the military, we lost a few people that didn't want to shoot a gun (makes no sense to me???) and the second biggest drop out was people the cannot swim (Join the Navy and can't swim...good call). There is a reason I don't go to shooting ranges around here.

So what is your point about the 90% female/ 70% teachers/ designated security officers in CCW classes? Can they not shoot? Is it not a good idea to get training? What kind of people are these? Please elaborate.....

Just to be clear, this is the people I hang out with...and they don't hang out with other military personnel in Colorado Springs due to this discussion of smarts with weapons. I will leave it at that....

I remember this issue (and something similar happened in COS). I have to say, in the medical field (all encompassed) is just a dangerous job. I'm glad it is acceptable to have any weapons I want at work.

I'm just giving you a little insight into the type of people that I see want to carry concealed weapons. I don't see untrained idiots wanting to carry. Those are already out there. I see law abiding citizens jumping through to many hoops or possibly even an infinite number of hoops to be able to protect themselves from people who want to harm them. As to the other statement I probably should have separated it. more of a response to
Ive seen a lot of people shoot weapons for there first time never seen the shaking. Possibly because we were raised in different areas who knows. But as I grew up guns or the idea of a gun were a part of life hell the very concept started with a nerf gun. enough said. But I do go to shooting ranges throughout Colorado and I see Americans out there practicing there heritage some not so skilled but that's why they have range officers and other knowledgeable Americans. And when someone make a mistake someone is there to help correct the mistake.

I guess to me I just see people that carry guns as automatically having the training because they do. So making it easier for them to have the gun concealed I'm all in which is what the thread is about.

As to my story about the hospitals. Gun free zone. Just pointing out it could possibly be a hazard to my health. Take it how you want it but there is a threat out there that wants to do defenseless Americans harm.

I agree unless you already have taken a gun/hunting safety course previously and have proof. (from any state). Anything thing beyond that probably would never get off the ground. 2nd amendment...The right to bear arms with no infringements. Give "them" an inch and "they" will take a mile.

I guess that the CCW process is not that hard for me:

    -Law Enforcement/Military with pistol/rifle qualifications
    or
    -CCW Training class
    or
-Hunters safety course (I find this BS...but whatever right?)

Every 10 years retake a CCW refresher class.

I actually did all three when I was covered by hunters safety and Military qualifications. This is really not a bunch of hoops to jump through. Military was that hardest quals, the CCW class was easy and very informative on the whole process, Hunters safety was great when I was a little boy.

Some people do not grow up in gun environments, and that is a different situation for them. It isn't like these people where shaking uncontrollably and a stream of piss running down their leg. It was enough not to get a bulls-eye vs on the outer edges of target.

Actually NRA sanctioned hunter safety courses are pretty good and not just for little boys. Even though my dad (retired USMC officer) taught me gun safety and how to reload my own rounds, and the fact I served in the USMC myself and shot expert all 6 years while I was in, I still had to retake the Colorado hunter safety course since I no longer had proof of my Oregon hunter safety course that I took when I was twelve. (1967). Half the class was comprised of adults. Many in my situation. Not just little boys. There were little girls too and their mothers. Handgun safety is the same difference. Good CCW classes are about the law/regs mostly in your state. Common sense can't be taught to anyone. Can't unteach stupid.

Point taken @matluth, but I took the course when I was 9 or 10 in MT. I can't even remember where the classes were. I did take a lot of good safety from the course and I guess that is all that matters.

Well, I'm going to bow out of this thread. Great discussion and you guys know how to keep a civil discussion. Well done sirs.

CO just made it where I could take an online hunter safety course because I meet that old age requirement which is stupid. That CO Hunter safety course was great. The two instructors were NAM vets. The best part of the class was at the end of the third night when they played a video on how to field dress a deer. It's one thing to harvest a deer, it's that blood and guts thing that a few folks got sqeamish. Heh heh
