To save $ I was thinking about looking through the local salvage yards for a 38 gallon tank.
Anyone know an easy way to spot one? How early were they offered? Any particular year/models that they came standard on?

    Thanks!

It's longer than the one you have.

It really doesn't get any easier than that.

2016+, must have bucket seats, aka not a bench front seat, I think at least an sr5 package, maybe even TRD. And yes its longer than your current tank.

Yeah I figured, but I won't be able to do a side by side comparison while crawling around the yards. Just hate to mess up and bring home the same as I already have!
Was hoping for a quick visual clue.
    Thanks!

Bring a tape measure for sure. Or even just cut a piece of wood or cardboard the length of your tank. Also you could run the VIN number through Toyota and it should let you know tank size

I think all tow packages have it. If it has a hitch and trailer plug in the bumper, should be it.

That's pretty sweet if you can find a 2016+ truck in your yards. Around here you're lucky to even see a freakin Yota pickup in a yard, let alone anything newer. So many on the road still, people know their worth. Not many scrapped.

Found this pic on the site.
My 2019 SR5 has the tow package but not the 38.
Do all the higher end packages come with 38s?

No, the 38 gallon tank is part of the TRD package. Along with the 2 front seats with center console.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
She's right. All TRD packages I've seen have the 38g. 2016 and up.

No she is not. The larger tank isn't part of the TRD package, its part of the SR5 upgrade package which is what gets you the captain seats and center console instead of the front bench and column shifter.

All the 2016+ TRD's have had the larger tank because you can't get the TRD package without the SR5 upgrade package but you can get the SR5 upgrade package without the TRD package.

I believe on the SR5's you have to get the SR5 upgrade package which includes the 38 gallon tank and a few other extras. I could be wrong but from what I've seen on local dealer's listings every TRD Off-road seems to include the SR5 upgrade package so I think it's a mandatory add-on to the TRD. I would imagine it's standard on the Platinum, 1794 and PRO

Yep, all the SR5 TRD off-road pack Tundras I looked at during my recent buy (including the one I bought) also had the SR5 upgrade which includes the big tank.

This is curious. The OP states he has a 2019 SR5 and the smaller tank. What gives? Or is there a difference between the "SR5" and "SR5 Upgrade Package"?

True. The 38 gal tank IS included with the SR5 Upgrade package, but only if you also have the 5.7L engine.

    I have a 2017 SR5 TSS (TSS requires SR5 Upgrade package) w/4.6L...no 38gal tank.

So is the SR5 and the SR5 "upgrade" two different things?

Yes. From my window sticker: SR5 Upgrade adds 38 gal tank (5.7L), front bucket seats w/power driver seat and power lumbar support, adds front center console with floor mounted urethane shift lever and knob, tilt and telescoping urethane steering wheel, 3 front cup holders, auto-dimming rearview mirror w/compass and Homelink Universal Transceiver, and an Anti-Theft System with Alarm and Engine Immobilizer.

The window sticker isn't accurate. Gotta check the Toyota build page to know what each option, package includes. For instance, in the sticker described above, do I understand you found a truck with the front bucket seats and center console PAIRED WITH floor-mounted shifter?!

A bunch of people on here want that and it's been nowhere to be found, and no ones found a mod. Have you got pics of that truck interior that sticker is describing?

What. You think I'm lying? OK...talking about 2017, not 2018, 2019 or any other year.

The Gulf Coast Region in Houston (formerly the "port" for Japan manufactured trucks) supplies an extra-factory trim called the TSS (Truck Sport Series). The TSS qualifies as a "special package" under Toyota's corporate financing definitions. What I described on my window sticker is in fact an option specification, and I doubt that it is legal to provide ANYTHING but exactly what that window sticker specification says.

In 2017, the SR5 Upgrade was Toyota option code "SP" and MSRP for that option, 4.6L sans 38 gal tank, was $1015. The TSS special package REQUIRES an SR5 Upgrade package as standard equipment (no SR5 upgrade, no TSS). I have observed that said upgrade includes all the items listed on my window sticker. The TSS package (Toyota option code "TS") ALSO includes (in 2017 at least) 20" tires (Goodyear Wrangler kevlar-belted) and machined face alloy wheels (very similar to some TRD wheels), 5" chrome oval tube steps, stainless steel exhaust tip, carpet floor mats, and TSS sport series bed decal (bfd).

Want a TSS? Truck on down to Texas and get one...but all 5.7L will likely be flex-fuel with all those issues.

I think this is actually extremely common? Maybe I am wrong but I think every Tundra that has front bucket seats w/ center console has the floor mounted shifter from the factory. I can't imagine they would leave the column mounted shifter with this setup. Sounds like you meant to reference another setup possibly?
