Is there a way to disable the seat belt chime on a 2016 Tundra without physically taking the spring out of the seat belt receiver?

Go to Toyota and ask for a seatbelt extender. Keep it plugged in like its your seatbelt at times you dont want to actually wear your seatbelt.

They can disable it at the dealer but alot of times they will BS you and say they are only allowed to turnoff the passenger side. When that happens just smile and walk to the parts counter. Tell em you pick up some big girls from time to time and want to keep em safe.

I think dealer cooperation depends on where you live. My dealer disabled it without complaint. There are plenty of people who use the trucks on farms/fields, in the forest, etc. who get in and out repeatedly and stay below 10-15 mph. I imagine the dealers that give people a hard time are located in the more urban areas. Perhaps there are some state laws that prohibit disabling it too, but I haven't heard of any.

Wear your seat belt. Works like a charm.

    See what I did there?

Techstream. Order it or have the dealer do it.

I have been wondering the same thing. I wear my seat belt 95 percent of the time but when I drive around the property where I live at slow speeds it's not always convenient to put the seat belt on and and take it off when getting in and out of the truck. The seat belt chime for the driver and the "key is in the ignition" chime drive me crazy sometimes.

The next time you go in for maintenance, just ask the rep who checks you in. I told the service rep exactly what you just explained, which is the truth. I wear my seat belt 99% of the time and don't need a chime to tell me to put it on. The only exception I have is when I'm driving around at slow speeds on private ranches or farms.

With the tactical side built into me, I am so used to tossing the seat belt upon arrival of the area of a call..I do the same thing when pulling into the house along with turning off my lights :anonymous:

Thanks for all the great responses (except for ColoradoTJ's snarky one). I choose to use my seatbelt when on public roads. However, on the farm or a constuction site, having to use the seat belt every time I get out and back in is beyond annoying. I used the seat belt buckle spring removal method on my '08 Tundra and it worked fine - I just prefer a software method if there's one available. It just ticks me off that it's not something an owner can easily perform themself. Based on the comments above, I guess I'll give the seat belt "extender" solution a shot. I found plenty of them on Amazon (they even have some that are under $2 and have a built in bottle opener). If that's too obtrusive, I'll go to the dealer and have them do it.

The volume and rate for the key in the ignition chime can be turned down as well. I have mine at it's lowest setting and I find it acceptable. The stock radio will easily drown it out without being obnoxious.

Don't waste your money on the extender. Most dealerships will change your set points for free. It is actually very easy. One of my buddies has the TechStream software and cable (65.00 investment total) and changes all my Toyotas when we have beers.

If you don't want to go down that route, then just latch the seatbelt before you get in and sit on the belt. You won't even know it is behind you. I do that to our 2015 F250 at work. That chime is really annoying.

    Hope that helps a little,

Your friendly snarky problem solver.

ColoradoTJ - That helps a lot, actually - thanks for the advice. Techstream sounds like a good option - I'll definitely look into that! I didn't realize it was that inexpensive. Yeah, I do the seat-belt-behind-me thing, too - just looking for a more elegant solution (that sounds pretty snobbish, eh?).

You can buy the software and just purchase the cabling to your Laptop to truck interface. It is actually pretty sweet all the set points you can change.

I changed all doors to open the first time I hit the FOB, silenced the beep (then put it back on), made sure my alarm was on (I think...or maybe the dealership verified it works), my doors lock when taken out of park. For you I would do the MPH setting since you get in and out a lot and probably do not get up to speed.

Well, if it can do all that, I'm definitely getting it! Thanks again for all the great advice! Wish I were where you are - crazy hot and humid here in Houston.

I can't even imagine the heat and humidity down there. A guy I know moved down there for engineering work, and likes it since he gets to use his black ZR1 Corvette more than in CO.

It would probably bring back memories of the sandbox in Iraq.

Techstream is free- it's all over the interswebs. The only expense is the cable. Read a couple of the threads on the web about which cable(s) work and which ones don't. I would have to check my Amazon purchase history but I believe my cable was somewhere in the $30 range.

This did not work on my 2013 Tacoma at Toyota of Rockwall. I tried explaining it to them and even had a CSR at Toyota agree that it was a customizable feature and something the dealer could do. I was able to disable my 2009 myself but they made a change on the 2013. I am thinking that I will make it part of the sale when I buy a Tundra. For this and other reasons I have not been back to the dealer for anything.

They certainly do, but I was just giving the OP a rough time. I totally get what he is wanting. When I am in and out of my truck cutting wood or something else on my mountain property, that door chyme is annoying.

I disabled mine for that reason as well.

Back in '74, I bought a brand new car. It wouldn't start if I put a bag of groceries in the passenger seat. It didn't take me long to look under the seat and pull the plug on that nonsense. I agree that seatbelts save lives and I don't advocate driving without them, but there are times when that rapid ding gets to be more than a little annoying. Is there a similar plug under the seat on the Tundra?

I think that it's a pressure sensor in the seat cushion that is sensitive enough to determine the approximate weight of the passenger to determine the force used to inflate the airbag in the case of an accident. I know that there are some connectors under both seats, I unplugged them when I removed the seats to install seat covers. Which makes me think, if you disconnect those, you may disable the airbag that's in the outer side bolster of the backrest. Hasn't it already been mentioned that the chime can be disabled in TechStream?

True. If you disconnect the plug under the seat it also messes with the airbag.

It is funny that the "TRD" Chinese seat belt buckle sold on ebay has on it "Do not use".

I tried to get a seat belt extender from Toyota dealer parts department. Employee said the seat belt extender is only for obese people or some pregnant women. I am a 175 pound male and obviously don't need a seat belt extender. They said the person who needs the seat belt extender has to go to the Toyota dealer and sit in the drivers seat so they can measure what seat belt extender to order. Apparently Toyota seat belt extenders come in different sizes.

In addition to my Tundra, I also have a Chevrolet Cruze. I went to Chevrolet dealer parts department and asked for a seat belt extender. The parts department employee handed me a seat belt extender for free no questions asked. The Chevrolet seat belt extender fits into Tundra buckle.
