There are times when the eye can regress. Initially you may have 20/20 in both eyes then after 3 or 6 months one eye or both may regress some. This is an example that I use because it happened to a buddy of mine. He is the only one that I know of that this happened to. A $500 safety net would be worth it.

Yep, Fatty-McFatty is a classic show! (The Lasik ep and the one where he invested in one stock are my favorites!)

Back to lasik, we've never had it but my younger brother always wore coke-bottle glasses until he had it and now has 20/20...totally worth it.

Late to this thread, but I had lasik done in 2000. For my dept physical a few months ago, my vision is 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left. Zero issues in the past 17+ years.

Checking back in... 2.5 weeks post surgery and my eyes have been pretty stable for the last several days. I’m using 1.0x readers, which I knew I would need and have excellent distance vision. I go back at the end of the month for an1-month follow-up. The one thing that has made the most difference in healing has been the preservative free Eye lubricating drops. They have really helped he healing process.

No night vision issues, dryness, etc. it has been a great overall experience.

What a coincidence to see this thread today. My wife has been contemplating Lasik for about 3 years now, lifelong glasses/contacts. She's now starting to take it really serious, but still cautious, trying to find as many real world experiences as possible and talk to friends of friends about the procedure.

What is the recovery time on PRK?
Has anyone dealt with Blue Cross/Blue Shield recently, any idea what insurance normally picks up?

I was on the edge of needing PRK but ended up being ok having lasik. As I understand, recovery from PRK is longer but not terribly so with results being equal.

In my case, insurance did not pay any. I’m 2.5 weeks post surgery and would be happy to talk to you/her about the experience and research. Just let me know.

I had my 1 month follow up last week for PRK. I have some dryness, but this is expected because I had dryness beforehand. I still have a little blurriness every now and then but I'm told that should decrease as the dryness decreases. I've been doing drops all day every day to mitigate. Overall, I would do it again in a second. Insurance doesn't normally cover, although some vision plans offer discounts; might be worth looking into.

1-month update: seeing 20/10 in both eyes - freaking eagle eyes. No night vision issues, blurriness, dryness, etc.couldnt be happier with how it came out.

Had monovision lasik yesterday from one of the best docs in Colorado. A little blurry this AM but I’ll be driving myself to my appointment this morning glasses/contacts free

I had lasik done 20 years ago. Mine correction was minimal, I was 20/40 before the surgery. I can still see well without the glasses but I now wear reading glasses, no way to avoid them at my age.

Had custom wavefront lasik done in 2006. Still better than 20/20. Need reading glasses though..

Wife and I both have had it done. Wish I would have done it a lot sooner in life. Do not go with the cheap guys. Go with someone who has done a lot of procedures. I do not mean a few thousand procedures but a lot.

My doc was in the upper 80,000's when mine were done. You pay for the eqipment they use. The Lazer that Vance Thompson centers use is a 5 million dollar piece of equipment.

I can highly recommend Vance Thompson centers.

Forgot to mention if you have flex spending account for medical expenses you can use that towards Lasik.

I had PRK done 11 years ago (corneas too thin to get LASIK). Still have 20/15 vision. I have no regrets and wouldn’t hesitate to pay double what I did to do it again. I was traveling often to 3rd world countries as a photographer and always hated the thought of losing/breaking my glasses. I would have been SOL since I was about -7 in each eye with astigmatism.

To this day, I believe this is one of the best things I have ever spent money on. This list includes my wife’s wedding ring and the Tundra.

I also road/mountain bike and it is great to be able to wear sunglasses and goggles without having to get Rx lenses. You won’t regret it!

That’s why I went with monovision. It may take a little more time to get used to but I should be able to avoid readers.

I had the choice of monovision. Looking back I wish I had done it. Helps with shooting with open sights. A bit of a pain now.

I was a little nervous about it but did enough homework to feel good. It’s easily reversible if you can’t get comfortable with it. I’ll report back after a few weeks and let you know what I think.

i had lasik done around 1999. by a great doctor in los angeles. i paid $5,000 best money i ever spent. the doctor told me i would need reading glasses later in life for close up. but that is not the case for me. my eyes have changed a little and my distance vision is changing. i still see well, but use contacts for distance. i was told prk surgery would correct this, as i am not a candidate for lasik because too much time has passed, still have no regrets. i went to the ucla institute here in los angeles

I need to do this. I too am a puss when it comes to my eyes. Since I'm a pilot I sort of need them to work.... lol

Worn contacts/glasses since I was 7. Now 49. Gotten to the point I have have trifocals. Readers can be a pain when you are flying an instrument approach where you have to look ot the window then back inside at the instruments while looking through glasses and then over them. Thats why I ditched contacts a few years back and now wear glasses full time. It sure would be nice to e able to freaking see though. I'm -4.25/-4.75.

This. I had LASIK done in 2008 and it was the best things I’ve ever done. I got tired of my glasses fogging up when I ate Pho!

Don’t forget to plan for it and if you can take advantage of a Flex spending plan at work you’ll save some serious coin.

I could have paid cash for the procedure but they were offering 0 percent 24 month financing. Since I put a fair amount per month in my HSA I’ll be using that as a tax advantage. I figured why not borrow someone else’s money for free.

Best money spent for me too. I had lasik done around 15 years ago and my health insurance paid for half of it.
