    Hello,

I am getting ready to install a 1500w inverter under my drivers seat to run a few outlets in the cab and bed. I’ve searched, read and searched some more.

    I’ve bought this:

KRIËGER 1500 Watt 12V Power Inverter Dual 110V AC Outlets, Car Inverter Installation Kit. Automotive Back Up Power Supply for Blenders, Vacuums, Power Tools. MET Approved to UL and CSA

I’ve got 16’ of 1/0 gauge amp power wire to run to the inverter for positive and negative runs from the battery.

I have learned I need this:

Winch Solenoid 12V 250A Relay Contactor Thumb Truck with Protecting Caps for ATV UTV 4x4 Vehicles

If I want the inverter to turn on and off with the ignition.

    Questions:

    1) What size inline fuse do I need to make sure I don’t turn my truck into a signal flair?

1a) I am assuming this fuse should be located within 18” of the battery?

1b) Does the fuse need to go after the solenoid or before?

    2) How do I not use a switch and instead use a fuse tap from an acc. fuse?

2a) Is there a better solenoid out there with a simple remote wire activation?

Thank you all, looking forward to documenting the install once I get my head wrapped around it.

Okay so a 1500 watt inverter running at 12 VDC will draw 125 amps at full load. A 1/0 cable will handle the load with about a 2% drop in voltage which is negligible. the cable should handle up to 170 amps if it's copper wire.

I would use a 125A fuse or maybe a 130A if you can find it but would not go more than that. This fuse needs to be on the load side (12V to inverter) between the solenoid and battery so that both the solenoid and inverter are protected.

If you want a manual switch just put that in line with the solenoid trigger wire. All you need is a single pole switch for this. This way if you leave the switch on it will run anytime the ignition is on. When off it will be off all the time. I am guessing that the green wire goes to the ACC fuse so that is where the switch should be connected.

Subscribed due to my kid getting a different video game system that won't charge off the 2.4 amp dual USB ports I've already installed in the back seat......

I'm doing the same thing, but with a far smaller unit. (Victron Power Inverter 350W Phoenix 12/350 350VA) which has a remote on/off wire that I'm putting in the dash. I'm putting mine next to my amp which if fed by 2AWG wires. I'm hoping not to run two seperate 2AWG wires. I'm putting two outlets in the back seat and one for the passenger, Maybe one in the bed at some point. We'll see. G/L

@apwisher i talked to @james@tech12volts about doing the same thing. Wiring the inverter off of the amp power wire. He strongly recommended I NOT do that. Feedback in the audio system would be bad.

Ahh that makes sense. Oh well, I'm tearing everything apart anyway, I might as well run two wires.
    Thanks.

I'd skip the cheap ones and go for a Trombetta, in the 10 years I've used them I've never had one fail. You don't need a winch solenoid since you don't need to be able to reverse the power.

    @Festerw thabk you!

So how would I wire that? Power in on the one large post. Power out to the inverter on the other large post. Then how do I wire the two smaller posts with one wire coming off an acc. Fuse tap?

Power in/out on the large posts, one small to a ground and the other small to either switched or ignition 12v.

Does it matter which one is which or does this thing come with a diagram. Sorry for the stupid question @Festerw

Also, can I mount this in the engine bay and ground to the battery?

Just saw this. A solenoid is just a very high capacity relay. The small green and black wires are the control leads to operate the solenoid contacts when 12VDC is applied to them. Basically the small current needed to operate the relay controls the large current on the big contacts. The small black wire goes to ground and the small green wire would be wired to one side of the switch. The other side would go to the +12VDC ACC fuse that you plan to use to operate the relay. You will still need high current power available from the battery for the big terminals.

If I can this weekend I will send you a schematic to show how it should be connected.
