Which system is that? Just curious. I am working with Keith and his buddy at a local shop for install of gears, injectors, and cat-back exhaust. I am also going with the most mild/stock-sounding setup. Initially, I wanted to do headers also, but they don't have CARB approval, so I decided against it. So I don't think I'm going to see any significant gains HP gains from just a catback. Maybe just some torque. That would be fine. I need a new muffler anyway.

Got the transfer case and transmission buffed.

Tweaked the headlamp adjustments tonight and did a final securing of the top hold down fastener now that the fogs (9006) are in and confirmed performing beautifully. Highly recommend! So stoked on these new fogs performance that I’m eyeballing the 9003 for the new headlamps bulbs.

Only thing holding me back is if they are too bright for city driving. The fogs I didn’t worry about as they are bumper mounted (lower than most cars sight vision) and by design diffused side to side only projecting forward slightly.

Even with these 9003 headlamps having a sweet cut off line and no scatter, they still project forward and are mounted high (right a sight level) for compact vehicles. Twice the brightness might be too much.

Yeah, I wish I could do headers. Supposedly these JBA's look remarkably like TRD headers which did have a CARB approval here in CA. I remember the real TRD units being pretty pricey when they were still being sold, and used ones are like unicorns nowadays.

Yeah. These are out of my realm based on the investment vs. value of the truck. I’m tinkering with about $300-500 more spending on the 02’ before the $ gets shut off. My rational for everything so far is based on this trucks long life. She could fetch $8 maybe $10k (based on dumpy cregssliss mostly poorly maintained crap people are dumping out there). I’m just over $5k now in spending this year.

You’ll be stoked on the injectors. Your truck will feel different in a good way. What gears you doing? I’m sure they’ll be a real nice partner with the new injectors.

I never have unless towing and it was windy (strong headwind) pushing hard against the trailer when doing highway speeds. Or, towing up hills. The truck usually lets me know it doesn’t like these conditions and thats when the O/D goes off.

Never have turned it off in regular driving unless messing around.

I'm right there with ya. Trying to make my '02 last for the long haul. I considered buying a new truck, but I just don't need a behemoth, or a $700/mo car payment. Investing some dollars in my still very nice '02 seemed like a better way to go. I'm liking the recent suspension and braking upgrades. It drives so smooth now, it feels like I'm driving a very tall comfy Camry.

A little more grunt for towing is what I'm after now. I called Keith asking about headers, injectors, and exhaust. He said my best bang for the buck would be to re-gear, and he specifically recommended the 4.88's. I was a little apprehensive about the 4.88's since I have no plans to run big tires, but after doing some research, I think it will be fine. I'm not afraid of the higher RPM's. The rumor is that it lessens the load on the entire driveline, and can even result in less fuel consumption. I am not expecting a miracle there, but I'm wondering if I can try towing without turning off O/D after the re-gear. Without turning off O/D, the RPM's at my typical towing speed of 60mph should be very manageable even with 4.88's.

Really curious what your experience will be with 4.88 and stock tires. I run 4.56 and 33" tires and always thought of how quick my truck would be with stock tires.

I hear yes and no. Mainly because OD does some weird thing to something and then something goes boom. Sometimes. I pulled a 12,000lb trailer with my E-250 in OD and nothing happened. That was 5 years ago. We usually pull trailers between 2,000 and 7,000 once a week and I haven't had any problems.

I'm running a Spintech https://spintechmufflers.com/6000-pro-street/ myself, sounds great going down the highway or pulling into a parking lot. You will notice it more on long trips, but not so much as to get a headache from it.

Personally, I will still use O/D if I'm towing a not too heavy load on completely flat ground with normal wind resistance. If it's a strong headwind, there are any hills, or it was heavy (I've never towed what I would call heavy which is 50%+ of the maximum recommended tow weight) O/D comes off. It's just easier on the transmission.

Figured out the Transmission Breather location today. I bought a new one a few months back (wrong part) thinking it was the two breathers next to the battery (front diff and ?). Anyways, this pic looks like the one I wrongly purchased so I’ll swap it in soon.

Scored on some sound damper padding that will be going behind the rear seats after they get removed. This should reduce any of the last of the locations noises possible as the whole cab has already been done except for the roof (ain’t happening).
