i see this nice tundra 07 limited crewmax limited for 16k with 137k miles but I am trying to get into the army soon and I got my asvab coming up on the 18th of February. I am stupid and I failed the test once(this month) but this isn’t going to happen this month but wondering if I should just wait until I know if I am getting in. I have had 6 cars so far and I am 24. My current car which is a Toyota Venza v6 and a roush warrior mustang ecoboost that I got from brother. My previous car I bought myself but got the mustang for free from my brother but thinking if I should trade in my venza. According to CarMax I would get 2k more then what I have left on my car but if I go to the army then I might have to sell it so that would be stupid of me again.

Not to rub it in, but did you really fail the ASVAB?

You really won't need a vehicle until you get out of Basic at the very least and most likely won't need it until after AIT (or whatever it's being called now, assuming it changed). Your vehicles are going to sit until then, so you could honestly just sell them before going in if you want.

I haven’t been in school since 18 and thought I could pass without studying and boy was I wrong. I also hate the assembling objects part which was the hard part that I couldn’t figure out. I’m studying up now though and surely passing my 2nd time. I don’t see that much limited crew max cab that is why I am asking.

I gotcha. I guess I probably wouldn't do so hot on an ACT or SAT right now either lol.

dont buy a car yet. get a tutor instead. retake asvab and secure a good MOS that translates into the civilian world or dont and score low on the asvab and inflight missile repairman may be your only option. once you complete basic, ait and reach your first duty station you can buy a car that you can afford to pay on and include insurance, gas, and registration fees along with any applicable property tax charges. most of these expenses will drain a privates salary quick. just an FYI... be original and dont do what every single private out there does.

16k is steep for a 2007. Always book out on NADA and/or KBB.

Do yourself a favor and keep what you have for now. Save your money.
Once you get in, get some rank, and some brains (it comes natural with responsibility) and learn what you can afford with your pay, then make a decision on a new truck.

I have seen many young Airmen/Soldiers/Sailors/Marines (Officer and Enlisted alike) financially buried in their vehicles. Unfortunately, "overbuying" vehicles is embedded into the military culture..I see some of the nicest vehicles on military installations. Kids right out of high school driving brand new vehicles and no money for formula and diapers. Or driving rear-wheeled two-door sports cars in Alaska, North Dakota, Wyoming, etc.

Mentoring moment: You NEED 100% focus on the ASVAB. You don't need a 2007 Tundra right now. You have no idea where you may get assigned. I can think of plenty of "garden spots" that won't allow you to take a Tundra, or any vehicle for that matter. Let this tactical situation develop and then decide.

There is good advice up and down this thread. Read and heed.

Good luck on the ASVAB...you are plenty smart...now, go and kick the ass out of it!

Maybe it’s been because I have been out of the military for 20+ years but I do not recall “failing” the ASVAB. You take the assessment and that assessment provides a score. The higher your score the better MOS and more choices you have.

You need atleast a score of 31 or better to be accepted by the military and 31 is the lowest but if you do manage to get better score you can get a better MOS. https://www.goarmy.com/learn/understanding-the-asvab.html

Thats what most ex-military ppl told me to was that you could get in without even doing a test before but I guess its different now :(.

Jeep trying and just hunker down and work at it. As far as a MP, just remember that doesn't always transfer into a lot after military service has ended. If that's what you want then go for it.

While your in take advantage of any college courses you can get . Get something not law enforcement related. In the civilian world it had a high failure or burn out rate and being stuck with a criminal justice degree doesn't translate into much.

We all love tundras here but why when you already have 2 other cars? The free mustang ecoboost sounds like the best option here

As it has already been said, wait until your training is done.
Once you find out where you will be stationed, then think about it. Who knows you may end up in Kuwait or Korea, maybe Ft. Irwin. You go where Uncle Sugar needs you.
I think you have been talking to the wrong military folks. Even back in my Dads time they had testing. In my time they had testing. They need to make sure that folks have the aptitude for the career they are about to be part of. (Not trying to be snarky)

Keep studying, dont get another vehicle and good luck.
